A new Gex would be awesome, I can just see him spewing out parody references to the Kardashians, Justin Bieber, and Psy. As for people hyping up Dissidia, they are probably expecting SE to port it to the PS4, while possible, I doubt it will happen.

The Square Enix Collective is actually a pretty neat idea for other people to revive older titles. I'd definitely like to see it as a more widespread tactic if Square Enix makes it succeed.

SE Properties Open to Suggestions: I would love to see a Gex 4 personally. There were plans for one, but the only thing that still currently exists of the cancelled game was a couple of pieces of concept art for levels. Gex would probably need a new voice actor, but it doesn't have to be a famous comedian this time around.

They Stand Alone: I haven't yet played Resonance of Fate, but I know it's definitely a well-made game. A lot of thought went into the battle system and the story is actually pretty intriguing as it approaches the finale. I need to give both it and Last Story a try at some point. I wish I had jumped on the train when these two were actually the latest releases for the PS3 and Wii. I feel so left behind.

Speaking of titles that need sequels, Threads of Fate definitely needs one and has needed one for years. While the story may have wrapped up neatly regarding the Dewprism, Mint and Rue have a whole new land to explore, which was named in the complete ending after finishing both characters' tales. I would love to see that new land, along with new playable characters.

I also think Knack needs a sequel. I don't care what the naysayers say about it not needing one, there are a lot of points that need to be elaborated on and a sequel would do the trick. There is so much underlying storytelling potential to be had regarding the humans vs. goblins conflict, Knack's core and the ancients who left the relics behind. I'm deathly curious about the scope of things on that version of Earth.

The SE Collective is an interesting idea, somewhat like holding open auditions. So often, it requires a way to get your foot in the door to even have a shot at something like this, so it is interesting the Square Enix is providing a chance like this.

Follklore was a game I picked up partly because it seemed interesting and partly because it was early in the PS3's life and I was determined to find something that made use of the system. Ultimately, the game was ok, but I wasn't that impressed.

Yet another X Button article where the author thinks that Terra's personality is untrue to her home game. It makes me wonder if he ever bothered playing the first third or so of Final Fantasy VI.

Frieza is a lot like Yoda in that his species has never been named, despite plenty of chances for the franchise's creator to do so. And like with Yoda, it's very odd.

It wasn't as long as your typical Gears of War or Halo, but it didn't have to be.

Wasn't one of the common criticism of last gen games (as ignorant as it was) that some games were too short?

Well I can't bust Todd's chops on that Razz

And I'll probably go to my grave lamenting how Game Republic got shut down before they made DragonBall Origins 3, especially with how the 2nd game was a much better improvement on the first and how the third was supposed to feature the 23rd Budokai and Piccolo Daimao arcs.

There's a Resident Evil Revelations 2? Not to me. No 3DS or Wii U? No buy.

End of Eternity/"Resonance of Fate" was the best RPG of the last generation by far. So unique and charming in so many ways.

It skips two platforms and it's ousted into discontinuity?

Recently there's been a ton of outcry that the next big AAA shooter on PS4 was only 5 hours long. If you pay a full 60 dollars for a game, it should probably be a good bang for your buck. That's why I generally stick to long RPGs and platformers with replay value. 5 hours of entertainment for 60 dollars seems like a lot considering most movies which are a lot cheaper are 2-3 hours.

Resonance of Fate was one of my favorite RPGs on the PS3. I loved the characters and battle system. As much as I initially was disappointed with Star Ocean The Last Hope, it has since grown on me and I know really enjoy it. My initial disappointment was because it's not a very good Star Ocean game and strips out what made that franchise great. Now, I just view it as The Last Hope and it's much better. I enjoy the atmosphere, music, and character of the game even if it's not much like the previous ones.

I have no idea why Revelations 2 is an episodic game. That's what small time indie studios who don't even know if they can finance a whole game do. Capcom is not a small time studio. It seems extremely odd and pointless to release it that way. But I'll get it just to find out what happened to Barry because he's been MIA in the series for too long. If they made one featuring Rebecca again, that'd be great.

Minor peeve I have is that freakin' Leanne doesn't get her own stage to play as while the other two guys do even by themselves.

but the new inclusion of Y'Shtola from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is heartening. Perhaps Square will throw in some more obscure characters

Awesome as that would be - and I certainly hope we see more new additions, which almost have to be side cast by this point - it's worth pointing out that Y'shtola has basically already been established as XIV's go-to representative character, having appeared in a whole handful of spinoffs now. From a lore perspective it probably should have been Minfilia to represent XIV, but I'm guessing Y'shtola wins because miqo'te.

EDIT: And as much as a miqo'te fan as I am, it should have been Hildibrand. Hildibrand would make this a day one purchase for me, once it gets ported off Arcade.

The sepia imagery and soft music present an intriguing and elegiac picture, like some largely silent stop-motion short you might've caught on Nickelodeon as a kid and remembered even as an adult.

Gah! My childhood.

Anachronox needs more love. It was a terribly underrated game that ended up getting lost in the fallout of Daikatana and the shutdown of Ion Storm Dallas. If you have any love of PS1 era JRPGS, it's worth checking out.

Well, SEGA did that with Sonic 4 out of uncertainty about how to make one that would please the fanbase, the idea being to listen to feedback and make each episode play better than the last. By the time Episode II came out, I'm sure it sunk in that the Sonic fanbase is thoroughly unpleasable and provides terrible feedback, as I haven't heard anything about an Episode III.

Didn't help it got caught in that timeframe when 2D-or-nothing RPG people didn't like that it's 3DCG, while 3DCG people didn't like its graphics good enough, so got dismissed early on.

That's not the way to look at it. Those types of games are made to be played with other people over and over again, typically online. Those several hours are just there to train and prepare you for the real MMO game later. Like those fighting and card battle games - the little bit of story for each character is just a backdrop to the real game which is fighting against opponents. The entertainment is in the fights after the story shows you how to play. If you're not looking forward to the fights after the story, then you're missing the point of the game. (Rather, it's exceptional when those types of games come with an extensive story, like the Gears of War and Halo series.)
