I could get on board for this if it wasn't for those names. Wanna do a Patlabor TNG? Fine; I don't need Pacific Rim-level SFX to enjoy me some giant robots. But why use similar characters with names that are kanji-puns on the original characters' names?

Izumi Noa(泉 野明)/ Izumino Akira(泉野 明): In this case, they came up with that just by shifting kanji around, and that's one of the clever ones.

But it takes me completely out of it. Not only is it unnatural, it's like they're dangling the characters I really want to see just out of reach.

Nobody's even subtitling these live-action Patlabor features. Can't Discotek or Maiden Japan or somebody else get these things? I'd be all over that.

And that's how you design cool-looking robots. Hollywood could learn from this.

I'd be [pleasantly] shocked, if anyone in NA licensed the Patlabor live-action films. Heck, AFAIK, no one's even gotten their hands on the Kenshin one's.

The whole point of Patlabor was to show Mechs that would be possible in the real world, and to subvert the viewers expectation by showing them as simple tools, rather than big shiny toys.

Nice catch there. I didn't even realize.

+1. I would definitely pick these up if Maiden Japan added them to their great Patlabor catalog.
