I know that it is a two cour series, but, I insist, I would very much like for Justin to do an ANNCast on Planetes. I understand that is a show Justin likes a lot. It would be cool if the rest of the Supernerds could join in.

Personally I think it's time for ANNCast to go shoujo. Maybe Kimi ni Todoke or Chihayafuru.

I am the werido it seems because I Liked the first half of steins; gate and disliked the second half actually.

I am sorry zac finds it boring but I seriously find that odd. I am sorry but yay stuff happens in part 1. I mean the cliff hangers are actually very good in season 1 I thought.
I mean you have the build up with sern, and the changes with various characters thanks to their actions with various things (trying not to spoil).

but I apologize in advance because my customers are likely to start leaving a lot of comments defending steins; gate

Re: Slow Shows
Fairly recently a post taking issue with Zac's 2003 review of Witch Hunter Robin happened to coincide with me starting the series. The series starts slow, really slow, and not terribly exciting. It took me over a month to make it to episode ten when the actual story started, and then I could not stop and marathoned the rest. Overall a great show, but I came very close to discarding it.

Re: cutting the cord. It was an easy decision for me when I realised that I had spent $80 a month for 8 months, and the only thing I had watched was the first half of the Super Bowl. The antennae works great and actually gives a better picture than HD cable did, more bandwidth I guess.

Re: Revisiting Old Shows.
I am afraid to go back and watch any of my favorite TV show, Moonlighting, I fear it would ruin my good memories of it.

Re: Finances
Getting a few months rent/mortgage in savings certainly helps take the pressure off. Once you can, prioritize this over any reward/luxury/unnecessary thing.

Super-happy to hear Justin back on, and with a lengthy show to boot. I hope your date went well, Justin.

I can't help but be amused by the fact that Steins;Gate is the highest rated show on the site, and Zac literally describing the first half as the hardest thing he's sat through. Can't get much more polarized than that. I also think the show has parts that are meandering and could have been trimmed (Feyris' arc kind of lost me), but they are outweighed heavily in my eyes by the thrilling plot and powerful emotions it ultimately evokes.

With regards to revisiting stuff I watched as a kid; I have come to terms with the fact that everything I watched back then was horrible, with very few exceptions.

P.S.: I love it when you go off-topic and discuss love, life, finances and politics, etc.

I don't know, I guess I didn't find the first half of Steins;Gate to be boring. I'm a huge fan of characters even without a lot of plot progression, so all that setup was fun for me and just made me tear through the second half.

I've been watching Steins;Gate over the past month or so (up to episode 18 or 19 at the moment), and I'm likely to only finish because I've watched this far. I stayed far away from it for years due to miserably completing Chaos;Head where there was an interesting premise but ultimately failed hard in its execution past the first 3 or 4 episodes. And thus far in Steins;Gate it's just the same. A very interesting premise with awful execution. I kept hearing that the first half was really weak and that it improved dramatically in the second half, so I soldiered on through laughably poor writing (the 'Homeostasis' episodes are bar none the worst thing I've watched in the past couple of years). I'm still waiting for that improvement, and I highly doubt it will be doing so in the next few episodes since it's obvious now the path will be spoiler[backtracking so that the D-mails sent during the 'Homeostasis' episodes are no longer in effect so that Okabe can return to the world line that had the IBN] I doubt I'll be antsy to see what's coming up.

I disagree on Ren&Stimpy a bit(the adult cartoon was terrible). It's still weird enough to be entertaining. That and I love how Ren's voice is basically an extremely bad impersonation of Peter Lorre. A show that has extremely well is Rocko's Modern Life, which is still an excellent satirical piece.

I only watched the first two episodes of Stein;Gate, but I found it really hard to pick up again(I get that issue with a lot shows).

A show I could think of with a poor last half was Welcome to the NHK. The animation got extremely bad; along with being so rushed and ham-fisted.

I've actually rarely had bad experiences when it comes to revisiting old stuff I loved as a kid. I think part of it has to do with simply how I felt about those shows as a kid, and it might just be a bit of a generational gap (even if the age gap between someone like me & Zac or Justin isn't really a big one), but I have seen some of those shows & still enjoyed them, if at least in a new light or with acknowledgement of the time they came out in. Of course, I might have been an oddball growing up, as I saw then-new shows like Home Improvement, Family Matters, or Full House during the mornings or day, but I'd also watch stuff way before my time via Nick at Nite, like I Love Lucy, Happy Days, Taxi, etc. I think that helped me a lot with how much I loved shows as a kid, since it wasn't just "modern" stuff I was watching.

I think it all comes down to context, though. When Media Blasters released Voltron on DVD for the first time ever I bought the first set, as I remember loving it as a kid. I watched the first episode with friends & found it so terribly dubbed & performed, but then I remembered that all I honestly remembered was the giant robot fighting giant monsters. That stuff was awesome & I still enjoy the robot itself (not to mention I later saw some episodes of the original GoLion, which is honestly much better), so when I think about Voltron now I remember it for the robot, not the show itself.

I am a rerun kind of guy, though, so I've constantly re-watched episodes of old shows, simply because a lot of them never really left the airwaves (also, they make good background noise when I'm on my computer or doing regular housework). I think reruns have helped keep my experiences with the shows of my youth (especially sitcoms) from being such a shock, since they never really "left". If anything, I was able to wean down my enthusiasm for something like Full House (which I loved as a kid but now recognize as being so utterly cheesy & dumb) without making me hate myself.

This is just my personal experience, however.

I wouldn't exactly call the "White Power" signs thing at a basketball game "horrifying racist trauma." That doesn't make it right, but "horrifying racist trauma" tends to conjure up images of white dudes holding up effigies of black dudes being lynched. This sign thing is just a case of teenagers being teenagers, in that they do some really stupid stuff because they believe it makes them look "edgy" and "cool."

Speaking of the sign thing, I find it funny this happened is in Flower Mound of all places. It's known for being the suburbiest of suburbs where the sole reason people move there is to put their kids into the schools . It's not as crazy as Keller (whose children I've heard people say are grown in vats), but that's still what it's known for. Anyway, I now have some ammo to use against my coworker who went there that keeps making fun of my small-town school.

Branching off from there, schools are a likely reason for Funi to be there, followed by cheap land due to nothing being there.

Edited because I noticed I left out a few words.

Now I really, really want to see a Judge Judy/Linkin Park amv. Someone, please!

And just like Tanteikingdomkey, I too liked the first half of Steins;Gate. But I definitely liked the second half more. I can understand why Zac found the first half boring, but really, the worst? Didn't he watch Haruhis "endless eight"? I remember dropping the show during that arc it irritated me so much.

I also have to disagree with the Frasier comparison. I know some of the humor might be dated, but I don't think its aged as badly as something like Friends or Seinfeld. I work in SF and visit many peoples homes and I see a LOT of Fraiser-esque people through out the week (though the chances these people actually are gay are quite high).

Regarding imports, it makes sense for publishers to charge differently based on the local economy. If we give people carte blanche to bypass geolocking and import whatever they want, everyone will simply choose to pay the same as the poorest farmer in Zimbabwe. That obviously wouldn't be sustainable.
