I guess the bright side of FUNi changing the voice cast is, in the highly likely event they license this new TV series, they'll be able to do a broadcast dub for it.

That's... actually pretty smart thinking right there, I gotta admit. Neutral

Since this is just recompiling the OVA's into TV episodes, it would probably be smarter (and cheaper) to just reuse the OVA's English dub for this TV series.

I know this is wishful thinking, but if they are going to dub this and not just re-edit the OVA's dub for this TV series, I think it would be pretty smart for them to get the SAC cast back to dub this TV series. Bandai/Manga gave us a different take on the SAC story with the compilation films change in voice cast. I want Funimation to do the same for this TV series.

That is the only thing Funimation could do to make me interested in buying the Blu-ray's when they are released. Otherwise, I'll just stick to streaming this since I don't care for their new English voice cast and prefer the new Japanese cast (and I already own the OVA's).

Looking forward to this. Does anyone know if Funimation is getting the streaming rights for this? This sounds like an obvious pick-up for them since they have the OVAs already.

You said it yourself, I doubt Funi will get back the SAC cast. I don't think they'd have any reason to drop the current cast just to regroup the SAC cast. And I'm probably in the minority here, but I think the new cast is fine.

I don't think Funimation has said anything about this yet, but they probably will soon.

I think they do have a reason to bring them back. This TV series is just a retelling of the OVAs. How many people that bought the OVAs will buy this too? I'm not buying this unless Funimation does something special for this release like bringing back the SAC cast.

I love Elizabeth Maxwell as Kusanagi and think she did an excellent job. My problem with the dub is mostly the rest of the cast, specifically Chris Sabat as Batou and John Swasey as Aramaki. No matter how many times I try to listen to them, I just can't get used to it. I think their performances just don't measure up to Richard Epcar and William Frederick Knight in those roles.

That's a good point. I plan on getting the box set for parts 3 and 4 and as much as I want to see those 2 new episodes, I'm also not gonna buy it all over again unless Funimation does something special.

I definitely agree with you on Elizabeth Maxwell as Kusanagi and William Frederick Knight as Aramaki. I thought Maxwell's performance was great and fits well as a younger Kusanagi. And yeah, Knight's Aramaki was pretty much perfect. John Swasey was alright, but his performance (and voice) are not up to Knight's level. I somewhat disagree on Sabat as Batou, though. While I also think Richard Epcar has the better performance, I think Sabat's rougher-sounding voice is a good fit as a younger, more hotheaded version of Batou.

I've had the opportunity to watch the first three episodes of the OVA courtesy of Netflix, and even with different animation and cast compared to what I saw in GITS: SAC, I still love it. I think no matter which type of GITS it is, the stories are always intriguing to making me want to watch more and more, Shirow is truly a genius, and kudos to Tow for bringing this to the screen. I look forward to how the TV series will play out too.
