Nice review! I did find the ending (plot-wise) to be a bit lack luster (who the 'villain' was, etc.), but i loved the heck out of this show. I may be alone here, but i found episode 10 (or was it 9? the one when spoiler[something very sad happens to Amira] to be VERY emotionally powerful, which i wouldn't expect from a mobile tie-in show.

RoB definitely was one of the biggest surprises, one of the most high budgeted and pure eye candy anime last year for sure. After those videogame-adapted fiasco, I thought the anime was going to be a bore - and I'm glad I was wrong; gorgeous animation, fantastic characters, an adrenaline pumping adventure that never stops pumping, and it's kinda refreshing to see an anime adapted from a card game focuses more on the lore of the cards rather than playing the cards themselves. I wish more media adapted from videogame this good.

From what it could have been to what it should have been, what Rage of Bahamut was turned out to be pretty great. No one saw that coming.

That said, seeing what Amira turned out to be, I don't understand some of these complaints about her character in this review; Yes, yes, yes and yes and all that's because...?

I thought it was a good twist leading to a good ending. The only real complaint I have is...

I don't have any actually.

Agree with the review and B to B+ range for me. The show was just a lot of fun especially in the first half. I really wasn't expecting much from it but reading some of the reviews as it was airing made me check it out and it then totally grabbed me.

There was quite a bit of music that was just cool. The scene with Favaro and Amiria dancing was excellent (wish there was more of that) and it embodied the whole spirit of the show which was to give viewers a fun time. You can look past some of the weaknesses of a show if you just go with the flow. Sure the world-building could have been deeper, as could the characters and their development, but I had so much fun with the ride that I didn't mind so much. However, it did lose its momentum when it hit the rough patch in the middle. After such a great start it was a little of a downer to see it struggle to the end. I do wish Jean had been given a little more time at the end as she felt shoved off to the side and what happened to Lucifer? I was surprised that he did not put in an appearance at the end. Why show him ever so briefly and then do nothing with him? I think the recap episode was an unfortunate waste for a 12 episode show and they could have taken the time to fill out some of the weaknesses. Really I personally think one or two extra episodes could have made a big difference. Overall its still good popcorn munching fun.

Hmmm...might actually work on Toonami.

While I was also dissapointed how they handled one of the most fabulous demons I've ever seen, he did make a brief appearence in the last episode, spoiler[helping put a barrier around Bahamut when Favaro was flying towards it]

Had to take a quick look back at last episode cause I couldn't remember that and you're right he's there for like a 2 whole second flash (good catch), lol. But again they really didn't do anything with it and its just one other thing that leaves me wanting with the show. Still its not too bad of a show overall.

Definitely agree that the show lose energy when it get stuck in the same location for awhile, so much so that I stopped watching it at that point despite loving the first part.

spoiler[The entire plot with the king and Janne d'arc was just lazy and cliche to the point of boredom and really didn't contribute anything to the story. Really I would have far rather they stick with the premise of going north and never even introduced the city and Janne d'arc. It seems like her only role in the story was to be a decoy and trick viewer into thinking that Favaro wasn't the legendary hero, which fail catastrophically as far as I'm concerned.]

I'd say it did feel above average because of a good direction and great main character, but aside from that the plot and most character are extremely cliche and the action scene are nowhere near as numerous as they needed for a 12 par series.

What put it in such high regards was setting. A rooftop horse chase/ sword fight, a festive tavern with drink and dance, a gloomy swamp village with undead, fish people vs zombies on the high sea, demon fortress, riding a zombie dragon, a fantastical forest, and the apocalypse. Indeed the setting of being stuck in a castle for a few episodes did drag it down a bit, but some of those settings kind of just filled me with excitement that I really cannot connect to much anime.

I look towards the opening song for just being filled with the raw fun of the series, while its ending song showed the earnest side that made it quite endearing. That was especially in regards to Amira who rather than a full adult actually, was a child not to be a moe written character, but really a kid in an adult body, in stark contrast to Rita.

Agree with the reviewer and some of comments that the story has serious issues.

The ending was outright bad, it devalued whole concept of this project, made it cheaper than necessary and could be easily manageable with better writing.

The fact that Bahamut is only now getting a review is rather puzzling. Did none of the staff watch it while it was airing? I found it surprisingly entertaining myself, but for some reason it failed to attract much attention. When a show has NBCUniversal (aka Comcast) among its financiers, you'd think it would have gotten better PR.

Having followed his blog for a while now I can tell you that Nick was following it weekly. Better late then never I guess.

You may have noticed we cover these shows week to week now.

Typically afterward the idea is to wait for a physical release to do a full series review but critics are free to do full series reviews of streaming shows that have completed anytime they wish.

I can never tell if this guy is being a smart-ass or not.

Hope that doesn't get me banned (it will).

I liked Rage of Bahamut. That's all that needs to be said.
