Well. Considering how popular Sakura and the SasuSaku ship is in Japan, this will sell like hotcakes.

Likewise, for the NaruSaku shippers, they'd want to know why their ship didn't sail.

Sakura represents one of the biggest disconnects in manga history, it's obvious the idea of her "character" was shoved down Kishimoto's throat. Whenever an editor forces a writer to give life to something they have no interest in, the subject will always suffer. This was no different as Sakura did little but infuriate and disappoint the Naruto fanbase. She displayed psychopathic, selfish, and repugnant behavior throughout. Then in the final arc, just as you think she's progressing as a character, learning about the horrors of war and making selfless decisions she reverts completely. Her character is revealed to be simply a collection of holes reserved for Sasuke regardless of any anything.

Sasuke regressed by using Sakura, and while Naruto and Hinata didn't regress that relationship was pretty pointless as well. It just goes to show that in the Naruto world if you hang around long enough and put up with complete indifference and even disdain, eventually ladies, your man will settle for you.

I view 698 as the true ending of Naruto, and don't blame Kishi one bit for rushing the finale. He didn't get the respect he deserved at Jump, nor the fan respect in Japan, and he built more than enough of a story to satisfy me as a fan. I don't want to see mangaka suffer in environments they don't like, feeling trapped to produce work they clearly are no longer passionate about. Especially if they don't feel they get the respect they deserve. If and when he does another project I look forward to it.

At this point, I think I may be more upset about the fact Sakura got with Sasuke than anything. It still confounds me how they ended up together. Like, given their entire history, it just doesn't make sense, especially from a literary stand-point. Unless Sakura is secretly extremely masochistic or something. Even if that was the case, it was still terribly constructed.

So excited for this! Sakura is my favorite Naruto character, and I've always thought her love for Sasuke and his sometimes returning affection throughout the manga was very beautiful.

It was pretty obvious from the beginning this would happen, in my opinion. Stuff about the "abusive relationship" thing doesn't really make any sense. They're ninjas, yes, and they had spoiler[to fight against each other because they were enemies. Enemies, yes, but Sakura never stopped loving him, even if she had to make a decision to die with him.] Sure, the other couple I thought was adorable didn't get together, but meh, that's life, whaddya do. I don't consider myself a shipper, just a romanticist. I enjoyed Kakashi's novel, which spoiler[basically revealed that he now has a romantic interest from the country of the mist (who was ALSO his enemy who tried to kill him)], so I am looking forward to next week when the book arrives at my door.

Same here... I don't even know why Sakura ended up with Sasuke...

In the end, maybe Kishimoto disguised himself as a survey taker and asked about a hundred passersby and oh, in that hundred, there's 51 NaruHina and 49 NaruSaku and that's how he got the idea...

This should be their theme song on their wedding:

Love The Way You Lie AMV
Laughing

  • On the first page of our story
    The future seemed so bright
Then this thing turned out so evil
    I don’t know why I’m still surprised
Even angels have their wicked schemes
And you take that to new extremes
But you’ll always be my hero
Even though you’ve lost your mind

Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
But that's alright because I like the way it hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
But that's alright because I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

  • I can't tell you what it really is
I can only tell you what it feels like
And right now there's a steel knife in my windpipe
I can't breathe but I still fight while I can fight
As long as the wrong feels right it's like I'm in flight
High off her love, drunk from her hate,
It's like I'm huffing paint and I love her the more I suffer, I suffocate
And right before I'm about to drown, she resuscitates me
She <beeping> hates me and I love it.

  • Now there’s gravel in our voices
Glass is shattered from the fight
In this tug of war you’ll always win
    Even when I’m right
‘Cause you feed me fables from your hand
With violent words and empty threats
And it’s sick that all these battles
    Are what keeps me satisfied

    So maybe I’m a masochist
I try to run but I don’t wanna ever leave
'Til the walls are goin’ up
In smoke with all our memories

Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
But that's alright because I like the way it hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
But that's alright because I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

Pretty much the thing I loathed out of the whole ending. They settled for each other. Sasuke ending up with Naruto at the end would have made more sense.

I think it really boils down to the fact that he never really invested any time in the romance at all. Unlike shoujo where it's a key point, the romance took a back seat the entire ride.

I do give him some props, unlike with Oda who has not even a speck of serious romance for anyone the readers care about. It's so unrealistic and hold back so much development.

I mostly agree up to her showing psychopathic behavior (I liked Sakura's personality... and she's selfish for sure, but psychopathic? Granted I've only read up to vol 52 so far, catching up!) But I'd like to extend this to all of the females on the 3-man teams. Every one of them was either a one-trick pony (Ino) or vastly inferior to their male counterparts (Hinata). If there were ever characters that were victims of their writer it's the Naruto girls (especially Sakura). I remember Kishimoto wrote in his early notes about how Sasuke and Sakura were suggested by his editor to give Naruto a rival and love interest; it's obvious he would have gladly written the entire series with nary a female ninja if it weren't for his editor(s) saying, "This manga needs some pretty girls!"

The thing that baffles me about Sakura is how Kishimoto spent a whole arc at the beginning of Shippuuden establishing that Sakura wasn't useless anymore, that she was both an esteemed medical ninja and could pack a punch, but where did that go? I can't think of a single instance after that arc where Sakura used her super strength except for comedic effect. It's like Kishimoto doesn't know how (or want) to write her any way other than a mostly-useless healer.

I'm really hoping this novel gives her a final opportunity to actually shine, and provides some actual romantic buildup to Sakura and Sasuke's relationship. I always liked the idea of them as a pair but thought that ship sailed long ago... I was legitimately surprised to hear they got together in end.

I disagree about Hinata, she's probably the strongest one out of her own team. I see your point though.

Also, Kishi said Sakura wasn't meant to have all the spotlight she did. Originally, she was supposed to be replaced by Hinata but the girls in Japan loved Sakura. The move would have made sense and would have developed Narutos and Hinatas relationship too.

To be fair, once you get past the Akatsuki arc, that pretty much happens to EVERYONE (except Naruto and Sasuke). Heck, in the Ninja war it kind of felt like Kishimoto HAD to spoiler[bring back the ghosts of all the kages] because EVERYONE (except Naruto & Sasuke) was pathetically "weak" in comparison. I'd be more inclined to agree if the end showed off Rock Lee or Kiba or one of the other guys, but you reached a point where even Kakashi and Gaara and such seemed pretty superfluous. The one "upside" of the later chapters is that the "power level escalation" seemed to keep accelerating so at least you didn't spend an eternity building someone up just to make them obsolete, instead in the "end game" people started getting obsolete almost a few chapter after getting introduced.
