One of the best parts about reading Nintendo Power in my youth were their comics. And this one was one of the best. Funny how in many ways these comics were my first tastes of manga. I hope Mario Adventure, Star Fox, and Super Metroid collections follow.

Man, I loved these comics as a kid (though not quite as much as the excellent Mario comics that ran in the same issues.) It blew my mind years later when I discovered the Zelda comic was done by the same guy who created Kamen Rider and Cyborg 009.

I'm amazed that this was released! I hope it does well enough to convince the higher-ups to release the Mario comic!

So we are finally getting this piece of history. I remember these comic segments from the old Nintendo Power Magazine a friend of mine had a subscription. Another cool artist featured in Nintendo Power was Benimaru Itoh who did illustrations for Star Fox and Metroid. I managed to find one of his 'Earthbound' comics in a used Japanese bookstore a decade or two ago. I always thought his art style was a pleasure to look at.

Levitz: Actually, I was pestering Nintendo about a reprint over ten years ago. I don't know what changed since then.

I'd be curious to compare the dialogue. There were a few edits to the text between the Nintendo Power versions and the collections NP published a little later. I wonder if this uses the original magazine text or the revised text, or is even a fresh translation from Ishinomori's original dialogue (which, AFAIK, has never been published in Japanese)

I had no idea this was even in existence, but I will be sure to keep a lookout for it now. Thanks for sharing!

Interesting to see this back. I was firmly in the SEGA camp back in 1992, so of course I never read this when it was originally published.

I'm curious to read this, as having checked out a lot of Ishinomori's other works, this seems like lighter fare than what he would've normally done.

I'm surprised the review didn't mention Ishinomori adding his own character, Roam, who is awesome but a clear homage to 002.

It still blows my mind that it's 'only' 196 pages or ran in Nintendo Power for just a year. Whenever I think back to reading the magazine back then and experiencing this series monthly, it just felt so much longer.
