Well when you consider it was CPM and the 1990's, it really is no surprise.

No they're not "literally" crap, because then they'd be physically composed of post-digested excrement.

Unless you're the kind of person who enjoys eating old VHS tapes. Razz Wink

I love the hell out of those old school 80's and 90's trailers. Stuff from Manga or Streamline like this:

Some of those were pretty good! Some are downright classics. Votoms and Patlabor, especially Patlabor, hold up real well.

But man, the first trailer was cringeworthy. So much nostalgia in an age where getting any anime at all was a big effort. Still these ads are hard to watch nowadays.

That narrator in that U.S. Manga Corps commercial was really grating to hear. Then again, the commercial was from the 1990's, so I'm not surprised that it was over-the-top.

That said, I really ought to get around to watching Project A-ko and Record of Lodoss War.

Anime sure did used to have a really badass spirit back in the day. There might have been a lot of crap, but even the crap was kind of campy, and of course there were a lot of gems too (Patlabor, Project A-ko, Lodoss War, Roujin Z and Iria Zeriam seemed to be fan favorites).

I never thought the CPM commercials were that great, sometimes I'd get a bad impression about what a show might be like simply because the cms were a bit questionable in quality. ADV had the "Do it Now" commercials that I thought were awesome and some are still kind of cool to watch even nowadays.

Nothing like getting those classic 90's soundtracks with your 90's anime as well. Many of these titles I've never watched mainly because of specific tastes. But I have seen Cybernetics Guardian and A-ko, back during my HS tape trading days. I did buy both series but have yet to sit down and watch them subbed. I've seen the first A-ko series just never the other 3 or 4 features. I wonder if I'll be about to get through those other 3 A-ko flicks as my friend said they were bad. I have seen some of A-ko the Versus and of course Iria. But one day I have to sit down and revisit these guys in my collection again. I have also seen 'Genocyber'. I wouldn't mind seeing that again if it ever gets released. With the rate that Discotek is going we may see all those oldies at some point in time.

patlabor, roujin z, cyber city... ah the good old days. a time when anime consisted of more than 5 frames per second!

funny enough, i am watching a lot of 90s anime at the moment and those titles are on the list Very Happy i also have goku: midnight eye, sherlock hound, the first lupin III series, a wind named amnesia, key the metal idol, trign and many others on the back burner.

If only there was some way of bringing those other underground 1980's/1990's anime shows to light...

That would really broaden the catalog by a wide margin. Smile

I love these commercials, they make laugh and smile at the same time.

My personal favorite was this one because it not only introduce me to anime but introduced me to one of my favorite bands of all time: Celtic Frost

Speaking of trailers from the good old days, this one is still my all-time favorite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLyArZpSI74

It just got me so immersed in anime when I first saw it.

I love how the end that second trailer with MD Geist II, gotta end it with a strong title right? I wasn't quite a fan back in those days, but were good anime really that slim? Or was it just CPM's catalog? I'm seen a friend's VHS anime collection, for every Ninja Scroll or Ghost in the Shell, there's 10 Baoh or La Blue Girls. Though Manga Ent's video (linked above) has Ninja Scroll, Wings of Honneamise, Macross Plus, Giant Robo, Ghost int he Shell, and the at least the charmingly bad Mad Bull 34. But does that mean they actually had a better catalogue or just used most of it for the promo videos? At least Patlabor and VOTOMs are still awesome from CPM's catalog (and I enjoyed Cyber City, which you can find online for like $3)
