Interesting, I didn't expect Appleseed to come to US so quickly. Let's hope that a wider release will follow.

Cool. I'll check it out (tickets are on sale to the public for these things, right?).
Wow, I never knew they made an Alive film. The manga by Tutomu Takahashi was pretty good, but I'm still suprised that they chose that over Jiraishin or Blue Heaven, both which are better than it. Oh well, I'm not complaining. Plus its directed by the guy who did Versus, so that should be interesting.

Yes, it will be a wider release.

Wider than a single screening at a film festival. Razz

Damn, I was hoping to see Team America then head home this weekend. I'm gonna have to stay another day for Appleseed. I need to talk with our Anime Club president (and rooomate) about ambye getting a group together. Maybe we need to contact the theater depending how many want to go. Aw crap. Thanks, ANN, for alerting all the Boston Otaku about it. (kidding)

I myself definately want to check out Alive. I loved the manga. I saw a copy online, even redid the crappy subs using the manga. I've been dying for it to come over stateside since I saw an ad for the movie. I actulaly first saw Versus at the Brattle. Can't wait for Media Blasters to release the Alive DVD.

Got back from it a couple of hours ago, a friend took me to see it for my birthday.
Was very enjoyable, though took a bit of getting used to, with the cel-shaded people and the realisic backgrounds. The water was very well rendered.
The audience was a bit strange, a lot of people were laughing at parts that weren't funny, especially emotional scenes.

I saw the movie last night, and I thought it was really good. Action packed with a great soundtrack.

I agree with the above poster that the crowd was a bit strange, laughing at wierd moments, however I think it was a reaction to some cliche' moments in the film and some "overacting" during emotional parts of the movie.

I'm looking forward to a DVD release, and perhaps seeing it in the theater again when it releases on a wider scale.

@ the Boston peeps: where can i get hooked up with more news about anime showing in town?

Because those scenes were incredibly lame. That's why people laughed. Machines coughing when they're dying? Please. It was hard to keep a straight face throughout the "emotional" parts because they were so incredibly contrived, illogical, and lame.

Buuuuut, maybe I'm just jaded.
