If it's that easy, why aren't other bootleggers being cracked down on? I mean, you don't have to get the source, but you could at least take out some of the distributors or something, right?

But eBay is pretty public, and if the authorities haven't noticed, there are plenty of other sellers that are also easily identifiable as bootleggers.

While that may be true... how many of those bootleggers on ebay are actually residing in Japan?
Sometimes the bootlegger makes it easier to get arrested. It would seem that this would be the case this time. |

There are several online "retailers" who sell obvious bootlegs.... DVD with at least 6-12 episodes with Chinese and English subtitles....I've seen bootleg version of Ghost in the Shell: SAC DVD 1 and it had 8 episodes at $20 but it was NOT worth it. Picture quality looked like it was compressed, pretty good but still not full DVD quality, and it was on 4:3 letterbox format with stereo audio. Translations were a bit iffy here and there on English subtitling probably because the translator is some guy who speak Chinese and NOT English as first language. I imagine Chinese subtitling was good since it was marketed toward those countries who can read Chinese. I'll keep my good old $30 US Special Edition DVD at 4 episdoes per DVD but at least it has 16:9 anamorphic widescreen, DAMM it looks goon my HDTV, and the DTS and Dolby audio track with respectable English subtitles. And dubbing is one of the highest quality I've seen recently.

It would be great if bootleggers could all be arrested as easy as that. what i would relly like to know is did the people who bought those dvds get their money back?

yeah...right....
Guranteed money back if I get arrested for bootlegging! Do you WANT to apply for refund if the supplier got arrested for piracy?!??! I wouldn't be surprised if those people who bought the DVDs are gonna be investigated. |

It's much harder to prosecute for buying bootlegs rather than selling. Prosecuters would have to prove the purchaser was aware that the product they were buying was pirated.
Sellers on the otherhand, all you have to prove is they were selling them, and that's much easier. |

I definitely agree about buyers being prosecuted. If you bought one, all you have to say is that you thought it was the official release in China and that's why there are Chinese subs. No law says you have to research anything that you buy. Some people might actually think that.

That holds true to me. I used to buy those 'FX' boxsets because they had the dubs and everything, but I soon found out that they, in fact, are illegal copies and the such. I have since gotten rid of them (by way of giving them to friends...  ).

Guess they couldn't catch the Tofu Trueno and the Gunmetal Grey WRX on Akina for street racing, so they went for easier prey. |

Most of the bootleggers on ebay are form China or Hong Kong. China is very loose in its enforceing of copyright laws. |
