knox rules should apply to previous Episodes-arcs as well, so it's time to have fun.

about r07 despising vandine, well let's just say the thinks those get in the way of story telling way too much.

Umineko is definitely a story that is much better when seen as a whole in hindsight. Rereading the story in manga form and I definitely agree that the pacing and transition between time and place felt wonky. Perhaps also due to transitioning between setpieces is something that is easier to do in VN format than in manga form.

I also want to mention that Erika is definitely my least favorite character in Umineko. One thing Ryukishi07 really seems to like that I don't is his penchant for psychotic girls, but he kinda makes up for it by making their actions understandable after learning their point of view. Erika does not have this redeeming feature; she is more an embodiment of the concept of a "dark detective" than an actual character.

Erika is definitely my favorite Umineko character (and is in general one of the more popular characters of the fanbase), though it's not really apparent why with just this arc. I will say at least she makes a great foil for Battler.

Also, love her or hate her, she's gonna be here for a whiiiiiiiile. Laughing

This volume also reveals the true relationship between Bern and Lambda, and I have to say it's one of my favorite pairings in fiction, but again, it's not really apparent with just this arc. Neither of them feel complete without the other, but they still manage to be great characters on their own, especially Lambda. It's so much more than "LOL LESBIANS ALL ALONG".

Battler also starts going through a pretty definite change starting with this volume. I don't know if it's next volume or the one after that (presuming there's gonna be a third volume for this arc), but later on we get a really fascinating discussion about the relationship between authors and their readers.

Oh yeah, and Akitaka is my favorite Umineko artists. He draws some pretty striking pages later on. I especially like his image of Beatrice being impaled by blue truth spears. He drew it as it should be: dark, ugly, gruesome, and not at all an appealing sight, whereas the previous artist drew it as almost a beautiful thing, which I definitely did not care for.

This is also where Natsuhi goes from being somewhat sympathetic, but also somewhat irritating to Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad
The way she's just completely tormented throughout this whole arc is horrifying.
