That is way too young for such a talent to die and I give his loved ones my condolences.

Less than a week after Takizawa Toshifumi (also 61) and Wakayama's stationmaster, the cat Tama (16). The same thing happened in January, IIRC.

May he rest in peace. The guy had some good shows on his resume. It's just a shame that he couldn't bring out his best in Transformers Armada.

This is particularly heartbreaking, considering that his death was only a week after that of Mr. Takazawa-san... Sad

R.I.P. Mr. Ueda-san. It was awesome that you got to be the director of MGL Nanoha StrikerS.

I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who recognizes the series in Hayama's memorial picture. R.I.P. Ueda.

Sad news. I haven't had a chance to view that part of the A.D. Police saga. I've only watched one. He had quite a resume. R.I.P.

Definitely a sad loss. While never truly having a work that can be called "ironically" his, Ueda did have some really good titles under his belt; most of them were just really obscure. I know people generally love the original A.D. Police OVAs, H2 is generally considered another great baseball title, and I found the Cybuster anime better than expected (nothing outstanding, mind you, but nowhere near as crappy as hardcore SRW fans make it out to be). I also really enjoyed Pachislo Kizoku Gin, which I saw earlier this year, & in some ways the Fuma no Kojirou OVAs, which he directed, were even better than the original manga (especially the Seiken Sensou-hen OVAs).

Really, I put down Hidehito Ueda in the same category as Toshifumi Kawase. While neither one has a truly "iconic" anime under their belts, both are/were simply very solid & reliable directors who can/could deliver very good work.

RIP Ueda-san

He really did do some decent work. His presence will be missed. Been meaning to pick up Armada, and I can't seem to fid the DVD of A.D Police yet, being an old ADV release.

I also remember quite enjoying his Ambassador Magma, back when those VHS tapes were coming out. I remember always being impatient during the wait between tapes.

Indeed, and while Armada was not the best it could be, I'm going to think back to it more now. Regardless of how awkwardly it was handled, I still enjoyed it for what it tried to bring.

He was a very respected man. I wouldn't have minded sharing a drink with him too. He must have been one awesome guy.

Pretty terrible news. I'm a huge fan of the AD Police OVAs. Very underrated, and my favorite part of the Bubblegum Crisis franchise. Did he direct all 3, or just one? They all have different styles. The TV show wasn't as good, but I'm sure it would have been had Ueda been able to use his full talents.
