Erm, they did leave the opening intact for FMA, since the first episode had no actual opening save for the black screen with title. Now, next week we'll see what happens. n_n

Kyle, the first episode of FMA never had an OP.

And you forgot to mention that the Tachikoma short was cut.

Actually, the first episode of FMA used the first OP as the ending sequence, when originally airing in Japan. That wasn't even the second closing, music or visual.

And I'm glad they left the SAC OP there. It's too awesome to edit out.

I heard that the Japanese version and the English version of SAC had different opening sequences. (Are they both on the Region 1 DVD?)

Which one was shown on Cartoon Network? "Inner Universe" (Russian) or "GET 9" (English)?

Cartoon Network showed what's on the DVD as the opening, meaning they showed "Inner Universe." I don't know anything about "GET 9," other than the fact that I have the TV size version on this CD. I think it's from the second season, though I'm probably wrong. Anime catgrin

GET 9 was never an opening from what i know, the opening for the first season was always Inner Universe(first 2 eps didn't have the CG one that came later, they had a copilation of little parts of the first few eps). the intro for the 2nd Season(GiG) is Rise, also by Origa.

I believe Zeriam was talking about Ghost in the Shell, not Fullmetal Alchemist. Ghost in the Shell got its second opening and second (although shortened) closing, though the song is the same for the first and second intro (the song is likewise the same for the first and second closing).

For Fullmetal Alchemist, the first episode has no opening, though the opening was used as the credits for the first episode. The opening starts playing from episode 2, and there is a separate closing. However, because Funimation is showing the second intro for all of the series (because the band that does the song is trying to into the American music business), they replaced the song at the end of the first episode with the second intro's song, then they were forced to shorten it because of time constraints.

I believe that this was covered in another news discussion thread, either "Ghost in the Shell premieres tonight" or "Fullmetal Alchemist premieres tonight". It should still be on the main page. Wink

Kyle is right on both accounts.

Necros explained the FMA issue, though I'd like to point out that it's more than likely the edited sequence shown will be FMA's permanent TV ending credit sequence since AS does not traditionally show opening sequences. Also, a later episode will only have an opening sequence and the Funimation-edited sequence can serve as opening or closing alike.

Also, the Tachikoma shorts were an R2 DVD extra. Manga may not have broadcast rights (and frankly there's no reason to broadcast them).

I think GET 9 was used on two of the episodes for the first season that released in Japan. It released on 13 DVD's with only 2 episodes on each one. They will probably use Inner Universe on all 26 of the English dubbed episodes which are being released on only 7 DVD's with 4 episodes each on most of them.

Waitaminute, then why is GITS: SAC a joint venture between Manga and Bandai? Plus, the Tachikomatic Days Shorts were on the R1 DVD releases by Bandai/Manga.

It's still an edit.

I can't remember where I read this, but I'm pretty sure it was from a Funimation source, but the total run time of an entire, unedited episode of FMA, including opening, ending, and preview, was 41 seconds over the time they were allowed. So, they shortened the end theme and preview. The opening will be intact for all episodes it appears on, with an exception for an episode later on that lacks any end theme. Also, if you paid attention to the credits of the first episode when it aired, it *did* list both Ready Steady Go for the opening theme, and Ineraseable Sin (Kesenai Tsumi) as the end theme. So all accounts point towards it being aired with both, but with end theme and preview shortened a bit.

It's not an edit because it's not a part of the episode. They are short specials. AS is airing GitS: SAC not GitS:SAC + Tachikoma specials. They are 2 separate things.

Get 9 was used as the OP during the 2nd run of SAC on TV.

As far as using the second OP animation, the first animation was only used on the first 2 eps. The second OP animation was used on the Region 1 DVD release, so it's not an edit.

Exhibit: this link

You're wrong, Manga wasn't involved in production of the shorts and is not even listed for production of the series until 2nd GIG. The Tachikoma shorts were DVD extras and are not part of the original TV broadcast, so they are not part of the series. They are extras for the fans. The broadcast of SAC on TV and the differences between Japanese and North American broadcasts are the content of Kyle's articles, not whatever is included on the DVDs.

Edit: And why is it everyone posts the answer right before me!? Laughing

Adult Swim has a mixed record on showing opening sequences. I'm still skeptical that Funimation would produce several edited sequences just for TV. I can reserve judgement until Saturday's premiere.
