Very good interview! I love how into the series a lot of the staff and cast are. I know OnoD and Miyake who voiced Joutarou and Avdol, respectively, are very avid fans.

This just might be the best interview with Japanese staff I've ever read. Usually, no matter how good the questions are (and these were good ones), the answers are always so guarded as if read from the official handbook of stock answers, but this had a sense of genuine engagement with the questions. Also, either the translator was exceptional or Tsuda is pretty fluent in English, because there was a very natural flow to the replies that's also unusual for these pieces.

Nice job, very interesting and fun.

Agreed, this came out to be one of the better interviews.

Great interview. One of the reasons I love Jojo's anime is that you could tell perfectly that the creators were fans of the manga, understood it very well, and put their damnest efforts to make it shine as much as they could (even with budget constraints), and that's always the picture I had in my head of David's production team (they also adapted Level E, which unlike Jojo it wasn't famous AT ALL and had the best adaptation such a quirky manga could have). Now reading this interview makes it even more clear and although he's calm he shows how much of a passion and thought he had while doing the show.

I also love so many interesting stuff about the production and design, like the use of color palettes, his awareness of memes (LOL, it surprises me and at the same time it doesn't), its understanding of sound effects as only a visual and not language even for japanese audiences, or that norm about episodes 1 and 3 being the most important episodes (Madoka is the most representative case that comes to my mind, but I should think if other famous shows threw important cards in those specific episodes). It's so nice to have such talkative directors about their work~~

It comes through calm in text because that's how translation tends to go, but he was a very enthusiastic interviewee. Very Happy He's also pretty young for an anime director, he's in his early thirties. Anyway, he was very animated.

I think the on-screen text works in JoJo because the series is so bombastic and pulpy; the suspension of disbelief has to be stronger so weird stuff like that is no problem. In something with a different atmosphere I think ti would easily be a disaster.

To be honest I always felt that David Production really understood the true essence of whatever work they were adapting. Not just JoJo or Level E, but they totally nailed the urban jungle atmosphere of Ben-to, the weird idisynchratic nature of Inu×Boku, and Neptunia was just Neptunia.
