Ohh, man...He was the same age as Satoru Iwata when he passed away just over a week earlier. Sad Very sad death indeed.

What a horrible shame. The Eternity Harlock comics provided an outlet for me back in the days when the only readily available Captain Harlock anime were the "Vengeance of the Space Pirate" dub of AOMY and the horribly cheesy Roger Corman dub of the Galaxy Express movie. The Gibson/Dunn/Eldred Harlock was a fun window into the character when there wasn't a lot of Matsumoto's stuff available on video shelves. Thank you, Mr. Gibson, for writing stuff I enjoyed so much.

Cause of death? And why is it being reported so late?

Oh man, I've still got his October interview with the Anime World Order podcast on my iPod. If anyone's interested, it's show #131 on iTunes, or you can get it direct from their website here.. That's actually pt. 2, apparently part one of the interview is with Tim Eldred, and can be found here.

In answer to this question: I am told that his sister, who as far as I know is his only surviving relative, lives overseas and had only just recently gotten back and started making the funereal arrangements, etc. Then I only found out as the word started to filter through the San Antonio anime community, which is how the news was passed along to me.

And everyone should check out the links ajr posted. In Robert's interviews after last year's Anime Weekend Atlanta, he did make some comments to the effect that he had some probably fatal condition.

Such talent has been lost. May his death have been in peace to a person who helped popularize anime in his local area.

Oh no. He did so much for the anime community in the US. And so young, too. 55 is too early for anyone to pass. My prayers go out to his sister.

55, just like Iwata. This is quite saddening.
