Absolutely horrible. I can't believe people want her to die and treat her like trash. The world is a cruel place. :/
I loved her song 果てなき道 from Tegami Bachi ED. I wish her the best and hope she'll be okay in the near future. |

She's done nothing but complain since she started singing over there. Sometimes you just have to suck things up if you want to succeed. The "death" threats are part of criticism singers face. A lot of singers deal with that if they aren't liked by their fans. :/
She's been a drama llama from the get go. |

I only saw HIMEKA live in person at 5pb Live 2013, and wondered why she couldn't have appeared in person at Animax Musix 2014 as part of AG7 instead of just pre-recorded.
I'm not sure what sort of support she had while in Japan and can imagine that it would be more difficult than being a foreigner in a more regular kind of job in Japan. Engagement with fans while not letting any negativity get to you would also be more difficult as a non-Japanese person in Japan. |

I will never understand how some people can act like death threats aren't worth complaining about. Though it usually comes from people who think "suck it up" is the solution to practically everything. Most of the threats are probably meaningless, but it only takes a single legitimate one to, y'know, literally kill you. Probably isn't much fun trying to find that needle in a haystack. |

She should suck it up when it comes to fans criticism but being used in the ways the idol and sometimes just the normal music industry in Japan is corporate tyranny and she has the right to complain about the industry itself, maybe her speaking out will encourage some reforms to the business practices and working conditions in the industry.

Because a lot of the threats against her were based on the fact that she was a foreigner singing Japanese. I think we can discredit all of them as just disgruntled fans. Artists here have to deal with it too. |

This is just sad; the entertainment industry is just so brutal and when one combines the mores of Japanese society ("gaijin"/"outsider") then the situation just becomes downright tragic.
Please cite examples -- if you can, anyway. |

Oh dear... Such a sad news...
Much more is the fact that some people could only amount her situation as "whines" and she should just "suck up" criticisms like it's basically just food in a singer's plate. I hope she can recover her enthusiasm back after a lengthy break. Her 1931's ED song remains a very good song to me. |

Sounds like her problems were more related to being a foreigner than the actual industry. It sucks, but that's the reality of things.

Not to butt into his argument but what about the most common examples of Justin Bieber or Miley Cyrus. Sure they are garbage at singing but nonetheless there are thousands of people who want them dead. But I bet that doesn't mean anything to you does it? Sure they did stupid things but not stupid enough to die over yet people hate both these artists and in the end no one really cares. Only when it's some foreign or in this case Japanese artist this happens to people start to care. Thats disgusting |

I think it's sad that pretty much anyone in the entertainment industry gets death threats now days. I know video game developers get them all the time. The only other "gaijin" I know who is a performer in Japan is Eric Miyashiro, a world class trumpeter. Probably being a Japanese-American made it easier to blend in than if he were Caucasian and jazz/classical wind players tend to not be as "crazy" as pop fans. I personally think it's disturbing that so many people like to threaten others with death so casually pretty much anywhere in the world. I think if some one stops being a hypocrite and actually carries out a murder after threatening it then we will see a huge shift in attitude toward this as the threats would seem more credible. If you are too cowardly to say "I want to kill you" to someone's face then don't do so while hiding behind anonymity. These trends about being completely unsympathetic and hateful make me hate humanity. I'm a hateful person but I sure wouldn't be a damn hypocrite about it if I had the means to carry it out.

It seems that HIMEKA's grievances have more to do with her being on the receiving end of hostility for being a foreigner than the Japanese music industry itself. Nonetheless, she, nor any singer, should never have to worry about being threatened with death or sever harm for any reason whatsoever.

It must have been intense to be her manager and seeing random blog posts show up that were pretty questionable. Most of the time when she popped up in the news it was because of a meltdown or something like this which was soon deleted afterward. The last one I remember was when she posted some pretty distressing blog entries with photos of pieces of her hair that she'd cut from the stress.
At this point she hasn't found much singing work and is still in Canada so I assume there may not be many who want to work with her :/
There are a few who do some big stuff in Japan but it's a very small number. Diana Garnet and Chris Hart are still active over there as singers after getting noticed on Nodojiman The World. Chris Hart sells a LOT of records but mostly cover albums. |

Well, I'm actually surprised at the comment about everything being "fake"... Perhaps she was being a little too idealistic with misplaced expectations?
