This is a no-win situation. If it airs on Cartoon Network, it'll have more creative freedom, but will get cancelled after a season or two because the toys didn't sell. If it airs on Nick, they'll either water it down or push it to online only with no fanfare. When Disney Anime hyper looks like the best option, you know you're fudged.

the only time a series gets into the reliance of Merch territory in modern western cartoon releases is after it gets into "SpongeBob" territory with endless production, premierring series have to rely simply on there ratings.

I think it's going to be a webseries.

I dunno, just in the last couple of years cartoon network has gotten a lil bit better about that kinda thing. Shows like Steven Universe dont have any kinda toys yet, and thats been on for 2 years and just got renewed for a full 3rd Season. They dont seem to be as concerned about toys as much as they used to, looks like whoever is in charge of CN now knows to try different merchandising (other than just toys) and make use of Social media.

I think it could have a chance on Cartoon Network. But it will probably be 15-min episodes, and if its in the style of Adventure Time, Steven Universe, or Over The Garden Wall, even if its a serious show with a lot of adult themes, it will have light heartedness in-between all that, which may or may not work for Castlevania. Then again, I dont know what they have planned. You are probably right in that CN wont risk something super-dark or super serious. Maybe something in the Style of Over the Garden Wall but a lil darker could work. I dunno if they are gonna wanna try for another show like Young Justice though (which is what they said is one of the influences of this Castlevania cartoon), while I love a lot of what Cartoon Network has been doing in the last couple of years, they dont seem to be interested in that type of show as much anymore. Who knows at this point though.

You are probably right about Nick though Anime hyper. As for Disney XD, dont watch anything there other than Gravity Falls, so cant comment much from that.

Either way, Im looking forward to how it comes out and wish Frederator the best of luck, even though we probably wont be seeing it in a couple of years lol

A project like this with Warren Ellis(!) as lead writer was announced years ago and never materialized. I expect more of the same.

Most Illogical.

Konami is on gamers shit list right now and Mercury steam's lackluster handling of Castlevania killed it for future endeavors. This project is way too odd.

I applaud them for attempting such a project, it ain't safe but it's definitely not for profit, that's for sure. It seems like someone's old dream that has finally come to fruition. Modern fandom will most likely roll their eyes at it.

Castlevania III is one of the great NES titles but we are talkin 1990. Can Frederator surpass the obscure?

And thank God for that. So glad western animation isn't tied to selling toys like it used to be. It's really opened things up for more creative freedom.

If you like magical girl shows at all, I highly recommend Star vs the Forces of Evil. It's actually pretty similar to Urusei Yatsura too, albeit more kid friendly. (I.e. destructive alien girl causes massive headaches for earth boy - only that boy isn't the world's biggest pervert.)

This makes me so happy. That western animators are not only doing a Japanese property but name dropping Akira... this could be really good. I sometimes feel like the future of anime rests on its influence spreading to other countries (like Korea, Europe & America). I still want good anime from Japan, but as a fan of animation the more quality animation shows we get, the better.

While I think this adaptation of Castlevania has a decent chance of faring well, I'm uncertain of how long it'll remain on air before Cartoon Network decides to prematurely pull the plug on it...

And can Frederator stop quirkily, hyperactively, and inscrutably amusing themselves long enough to do someone else's established property?

(Judging from any given five minutes of Oddparents or Adventure Time, safe bets are on "no".) Rolling Eyes

In all honesty, if this project does get made, I don't think we'll be seeing on televison since Frederator Studios often make webseries like Bravest Warriors & Bee and Puppycat and this project might be released in the same vain. Also, keep in mind that Adi Shankar did decribe this show as "super violent" on facebook so I don't think any of big three will pick up unless Adult Swim/Toonami show some interest, or if some wildcard like FX decides to add to their animation block.
