another thing that annoys me regarding assitant san, and I consider myself fairly tolerant to anime shenanigans (i.e., I don't mind rape being put there, and stuff like cross ange never bothered me) is the work molestation jokes.

one thing is having work molestation present in anime, and maybe having a jousei character tought it off or an average anime girl respond back/get annoyed, but the way this anime plays sexual harassment in the work place as a joke really annoyed me back when I watched it.

to says omethign positive of this show, the shinbo esque direction in some parts is fun to look at as this shows that this studio got an even smaller budget than shaft.

what makes you think it have a smaller budget than shaft?

cause from the looks of it , it have the same budget as JC Staff or madhouse.

Some of the dialogue in the final scenes borders on outright shamelessness in the way it suggests that the story is far from over. We get it, you want everyone to go out and buy the books. Give it a rest or give me a sequel.

you cant be surprised about that. some companies have done this to a lot of series.especially those that are long.however series like claymore, soul eater and tengo tenge have an original anime ending.

and unfortunately from the way tokyo ravens ended, it might end up having the incomplete ending with out actual conculsion just like with series like tokko, bastard, toaru no majustu index and angel sancutary and more recently deadman wonderland (which ending is more similar like this one) where as you point out , fan will have to go out and read the light novels.

worse is that though its a really good series its not that popular in the mainstream otaku community.especially compared to light novel series like arslan. so the chances of this series getting a second season let alone a manga adaptation is almost slim to none.

though there was one thing that the second part did show me.at least in the english dub.

Key might be right about Clifford Chappin's take as Harutora might get the lead honors back when part one was reviewed a year ago.

it was kinda weak on the first part , but the second part of the series was a definite improvement an chappin's part that i concede .

though i am pretty sure that everyone who have stayed with the series would have to agree that the main dub stand out is Jin Otomo(Shadow). that VA definitely should get supporting lead role.

While we understand why that is the case, it is why I also view Tokyo Ravens as a rental. Nice to have a go through once, but the ending just leaves it in a place where I wouldn't want to watch it again.

Similar to Black Bullet. I enjoyed it, didn't think that it was great, and the ending is similar (albeit the character that spoiler[leaves does so to be evil]).

Sadly, there aren't too many, in my opinion, anime that have a satisfying enough end...where I don't feel like I'm missing something big by not getting its source material. What's worse for a show like Tokyo Ravens is...we don't have (legal) access to the novels.

On Assistants, it's nice to see that its 2nd review here on ANN actually looked at the show for what it is...a kind of poor fanservice comedy. Rather than what the 1st review, where it seemed like they were harping on all these things...that they were NEVER going to find in the show...and then having a problem with that. Laughing

Nice collection man! That was pretty cool. I really really wanted that Olivia figure, but just couldn't quite bring myself to hit that "check out" button.

I never thought I'd actually see a collection from a fellow Lusitanian here on ANN. Always a positive surprise. We anime and manga fans are a scattered race here. Smile

Well, I guess I will have to check Tokyo Ravens. But even though I was told to check out The Comic Artist... I just don't feel motivated at all.

Since the author has not seen 'The Little Mermaid', I'll toss in my 2 cents.

"Darker" is a bit of a misnomer since the movie is definitively aimed at children ( The dolphin is cute and speaks) and there is little to no scary imagery; 'Bambi' is more intense than this movie. Also, don't forget that the Disney version had a big, terrifying, witch who was stabbed in the gut: ONSCREEN.

"More accurate take", on the other hand, is spot on. The story is just the fairytale brought to life: A few more 70s' songs and a talking dolphin but it's still the same narrative; No left turns and no new themes.

I heartily recommend this DVD. The story, music and animation are fine; Nothing groundbreaking, or breathtaking, but still enjoyable and worth seeing.

Another reason to drop money on this is that there are other older anime, done in this vein, that ARE breathtaking (Oh hello, 'Swan Lake') and which deserve to have a North American release.

Sorry if i'm a little behind on my Persona news, but does the Collectors Edition from Sentai still have the dub-only BDs in it? Or were they allowed to include subs on the BD for this release?

It's like slapstick; either you're a fan of it or you're not. Comic Assistant was exactly as much series as I'd expect from about seven full episodes of product though I don't agree that the show was a fanservice comedy rather than a comedy about fanservice- it just didn't have the ambition or budget to go that route.

I still hold by my initial word on: it's a trifle and it never meant to be anything more than that. It was a comedy, it made me laugh but I'm pretty sure that I don't actually compare different types of comedy to one another or pit them against one another in a death battle for exactly that reason: it's too specific to a personal response. Much like horror, comedy doesn't have to be good in order to get the job done for its audience and there's so many different kinds of comedy, it's hard to judge them except against personal taste.

Still, neither review has gotten close to the show's user rating which I think does a better job of putting the show in perspective without a single word: That's there's not enough of a show to actively dislike or hate or maybe its just not worth the effort.

For the record, I also enjoyed Oni Ai and Daimidaler. Can't wait to see the reaction to that last one when it gets released.

I also liked that show. Have never really looked into what sort of reactions there are to it out there...

I really liked Tokyo Ravens. Probably as close to an anime Harry Potter as I'm likely to get.

Really got me interested in the novels too, for both the continuing and to get some more details on the world building and politics with a bit more room to breathe.

I liked Tokyo Ravens, but i guess it didn't hit the reviewer well enough to be a keeper. I though it was nice self-enclosed 24 episode series that's worth keeping around.

Self enclosed? Unless you mean something else by that...I may be off the mark by what I'm going to say. But, TR has an opening ending.
