The manga author is sick, and the anime has so many production issues that they are making one and a half recaps minimum. Complete Gintama hiatus wherever you see.

Thank god the production is doing some recap next week.
the first gintama series (the one with 202 or so episodes) had about 1 to 1.5 chapters per episode and i found that pacing to work the best. i know that wouldn't work for other series but gintama's chapters are plot and dialogue heavy so one chapter could be done in one episode and still be really enjoyable. the new production is going too fast, i know they have a lot of non-animated chapters . but they're finishing about a volume in two episodes which people might think it's a good thing, but to me at-least the jokes are coming too fast to laugh at them, don't get me wrong i still enjoy the new season A LOT ! gintama is my favorite show, i'm just saying the pacing of the first 202 episodes was perfect to me and i wish they'd start doing that from now on. Also get well Gorilla-sensei~ |

I hope he gets better soon....he will I'm pretty sure of it..... He's been through so much in his life. Seriously how many close calls did he have he was almost done in by his own characters! And he's made it this far.... :(falls into a dark pit):.....................:(suddenly springs back up and says): let's quickly find all of gorilla-sensei's shady freinds who's with me!!!!!........ ..-_-

Take all the time you need Sorachi. One day people will realize just how incredible it is to have a Gorilla that can draw manga.
Also where is all this talk of a recap episode for next week coming from? From what I can tell the preview very succinctly states we're getting chapters 434 and 486 animated. Both very funny chapters in the manga. It sounds to me like people took the gag part at the end of this weeks episode seriously. 
But they still are doing essentially 1 to 1.5 chapters per episode. The most recent arc in the manga was four chapters done in two episodes. The gender bend arc was 5 chapters in three episodes, and the Shinigami arc was 5 chapters in three episodes. The pacing is essentially the same, just they're not adding little bits of filler content into the episodes like they did for the first series. Those bits were fun, but weren't a part of the manga. ^ The really low animation in these two last episodes, the final segment with barely animation where they say things like "oh-oh, if we keep like this they're going to think we have production issues or something", and that the preview for the next episode (after all the scenes after the credits) is a recap (especifically focused on Shinpachi, but a recap).

The final segment is a Gintama staple though. They've done that countless times. If you don't like it now, how did you get through it before? Or is this the first season of the series you've seen? The exact quote is something along the lines of "They said we should do a special recap so that people don't think we're having production issues like the other studios." Which I guess can imply that they are having production issues, but it also implies that they're poking fun at other animation studios that have gone through it. The animation has been fine in the last two episodes. It's the art direction that's problematic. It always weirds me out when people complain about one when they mean the other. If a character looks weird, that's art direction. If he moves strangely, that's animation. 'Sides, as much as I love Gintama, it's not exactly the type of show that needs a multimillion dollar budget to work. And just because the preview is a recap doesn't mean that the next episode is a recap. They even wrote it on the text after the preview that it is a Shinpachi-centric episode. (Which is only partially true.) Again I wonder if this is the first Gintama series you've seen? Cause these are all things they've done in the past. In fact I was kind of wondering when they'd pull this again. [/i] |

I think you are execrating a bit there, this arc may of had some pretty terrible animation, but its not like every arc has been like that, the Grim Reaper arc was amazingly animated. |

MarshalBanana Actually for Gintama animation standards the Grim Reaper arc was just alright (the art direction for the flashbacks was cool, but that's art, not animation), a better example is the body swap arc, they put a lot of effort in it. But what I said, two really bad animated eps that were kind of important + those 10 minutes with that line about production issues = they're kind of telling us. Which cool, I like they are sincere.
I think you are the one confused. The off-model characters (and their movement) are made by the key/i-b animators who had to do them in a hurry because of the deadlines, not the art direction who decides things like consistent color, style or mood (and Gintama usually goes well with it). This is purely animation problem, both the characters that are off-model in every shot that is not a close-up, and that there is barely any movement, too many boringly still shots in dynamic scenes, low framerate and clunky movement. The previous arc has well animation even in the more still shots, and when you compare the differences are obvious. I admit though I didn't know that they sometimes did reclips in the previews for next episode even if it's not a recap, the previous seasons I watched them in a road so I didn't see the previews. But when you don't know that and you see the other two things, it's not hard to think that. |

It's probably a bad flu. The lack of details about a "sudden illness" creates worry. I wonder how much Sorachi works on the manga. Probably close to as much as Oda, which is an inhuman amount. BTW, Sorachi's twitter (unverified, but it seems like him) is hilarious, only judging by the poor translation that I'm reading it through. |
