I was dumb enough to finish this series and below is my MU/Amazon review. The recent sequel is worse as it focus on Ecchi elements and is about an idol contest Shocked. The RE community barely cared about the first series but the second one is dead in the water with no game to back it up.

Resident Evil in name only 5/10
The mangaka´s previous effort Saru Lock was very bland and ultimately disappointing so i quit early but my love for Biohazard got me to check this one out as i have finished every canon RE game. The art itself is fine , some softcore gore can occasional be seen (but not nearly often enough), there are a few badly integrated fan service scenes and that is all the manga can offer. The original narrative itself is a generic "high schoolers fight monsters in secret" story with no proper logic behind it. All the characters represent typical clinches one can find in most shounen action manga and they don´t develop over the first 4 volumes. The connections to the franchise are very loose too and they could even be cut out entirely without changing 1% of the story. If you really need a fluff action comic with occasional cameos by Chris and Piers (why him ?) than feel free to try out Marhawa Desire as the manga is about as boring as it is unobjectionable. The Biohazard Umbrella Chronicles (8/10) tie-in manga or the second CG anime (6/10) should be sampled first though. The series is lastly a Shounen comic as children were always the main customers of the adult rated games. Obviously...
Update: I just flipped through the ending and the final volume was as bad is i expected. The whole story turned out to be another Highschool of the Dead in the end and the illogical plot doesn´t fit the games at all. The worst offend is certainly the epilogue as it was nothing more than a RE6 commercial! I thus have to wonder Naoki only looked at google image search results and promotional material for RE6 (the worst written one) to come up with this vapid mess. At least i know which sequel series i won´t be reading but Utsurowazarumono - Breath of Fire IV (8,5/10) proves that game adaptations of Capcom games can work so read that one or go for Naoki´s one good manga Lucifer no Migite (8/10). Don´t even get me started on how much better the Walking Dead (10/10) comic is.
