It sucks, but I'm glad I went there right before they decided to be on hiatus/close up shop.

How can you live in this country and not know political conventions are only every 4 years and always in different cities?

The RNC was sinply an rxcuse to bury the con, because i bet they lost a ton of money on it, given how few attended and spread over so many venues in such an expensive area

This doesn't surpise me in the least.I heard alot of material but did not really believe any of the hype. But when they did not announce anything by early december i was pretty sure this was not going to be held again in 05(this year). But at least shoujocon(onna i believe it called now) will be held in ocotober which is cool.

Well we have AnimeNext (www.animenext.org) in June and Onna (www.onnafest.com) in October to look foward too. They'll both be in NJ but are close by.

You are 100% correct, BAAF lost A ton of money in 2003. I was a volunteer and there was a lot of toruble behind the scenes. Volunteers did not show up, money was lost and everyone that workd in it got fired. Im not sure but one of teh factors was that the locaion was very expensive. Even thought Baaf may not happen you still Have AnimeNEXT which is only 5 miles from NYC and It only takes 10 minutes from the bus station in times sq and you Also Have Onna! which is a new con in nj. It's a shame, because they had some excellent guests and premieres. Maybe that'll make it easier for more of them to show up at this year's AX though...

This should be a boon for Anime Next and Onna. More so for ANext than Onna as Onna is focused on a couple of different genres in Anime/Manga. I wouldn't be surprised if ANext does close to 5,000 people. In my mind, NYC (the city itself) is probably the most expensive convention city in the world. ANext should be a great event, so NYC area people won't have as much to worry about.
