NEWS: Bandai Visual Establishes US Office

Will this mean Bandai Ent will be absorbed into Bandai Visual, or will the two remain as seperate, competing entities? First Toei, now Bandai Visual, it seems the japanese are really beggining to realise the potential the english speaking market has.

as long as they keep the US market releases seperate from the japanese market releases.. anime is a sub-cultural entity in the US right now because it isn't a mainstream product. the general public doesn't like anime all that much, as is proven by the sales and the theater showings of late. it's getting bigger, but i doubt it'll ever get mainstream. so with bandai ent and various other japanese studios seeing the US as a viable market for their products, i just hope they see us, the anime fans, as their target, and not the general public. if you take out the japanese in japanese animation....you take out the essense of anime. if they do decide to try to cater to US mainstream tastes...i hope they also continue to release anime for the japanese...without thought of how it'll be recieved here. ofcourse in business, creative integrity does take a back seat to money making potential.

i wouldn't mind seeing stuff made purely for the us market, i only hope they keep that seperate so we atleast get anime that is almost as pure as what we love today.

No clue what it means. I was really curious about this and I will be asking, but I didn't want to sit on this item, so I posted what I have and will try to update it with more details later.

Please use capitals.

What it seems to me, is that they are going to use this market research as input into new anime that they will create in Japan. And for the most part these titles will be released in Japan and North America. The Anime Companies have been doing this for quite a while now, many titles currently on the shelves were created with the North American market at least somewhat in mind. This is just one company taking it a step further by creating a division partially deadicated to studying the market.

Please note, this is pure conjecture on my part.

Toei Animation saw sales decrease overseas Japan especially in north American market these years. That's why it decided to have its affiliated firms in north and south America united in Los.

According Bandai Visual's IR information (available in English in its web site), it also sees sales of anime DVD fall last year in north America. Apparently it has related to the decision this time.

At first I thought to myself "That's nice. It's news by definition (something that normally doesn't happen everyday) and nothing more." Then I read the article again, especially the part about market research, and I thought. "Oh dear. Americanime is on its way back, big time."

As much as the 80's Americanime was amusing, I really hope that the former is more true than the latter.

Anime for the large part is fine as Japanese import. It's done fine we don't need Bandai asking Joe Sixpack on the street what he likes. For a large part we americans have repeatly shown that they have no taste. Baywatch.....Surivior.....Jerry Springer.....George W. Bush.....Britney Spears.

Go ask the Canadians.

I just hope that keep to asking anime fans, for the love of God I hope they ask some cultured anime fan, if they don't all well get is more DBZ and more Fanservice.

Does anyone remember the American Live Action Guyver or G-Savior? Should we let that happen again?
