I think alot more Japanese developers should release their games with an English language option, so no matter what if the games don't get any western releases, they can always import and for some games, that is a significant amount of potential revenue they could tap into.

Some clarification regarding Koei Tecmo Europe's response, they later tweeted this.
Quote:
We said the CM was honest to confirm that isn't coming to the west.We don't approve that he put the blame on anyone.
https://twitter.com/koeitecmoeurope/status/669507094584950784

So before anyone says it's about those evil Shonen Jump Weekly's, it isn't. When you consider everything the DOA series has done, and continues to do (The DLC, the costumes, the boob physics (Which have existed since the late 90's) that can now be controlled via the Vita touch screen and DualShock 3 and DualShock 4 controllers), and the Private Paradise DLC (And said DLC is available in NA), the statement about Shonen Jump Weekly's makes no sense. It's a little late to start worrying now, especially given the criticism it has gotten, and continues to get. Remember Dead or Alive: Paradise from 5 years ago? They've clearly had a "We give no ****'s attitude." all this time.

The more believable answer is sales. I remember hearing Xtreme 2 never did that well, so the announcement of 3 came as a bit of a surprise.

Or also, a theory someone I follow on Twitter came up with is Japan and Asia are the test-dummies. The west will eventually get an updated version with all the girls and all the bugs and stuff will be ironed out. Wouldn't be too surprising given how many times they've updated DOA5 with a new game release (5+, Ultimate, Last Round).

Play-Asia is selling an English language Asian version, so import it from there if you're still interested in the game.

Well this was always what they wanted (less sexual content in games), so I don't why people are suddenly pretending they shouldn't get any blame for it. It's not like it matters, this series always had niche and shallow appeal and I doubt the fans of it didn't already know about play asia. spoiler[ There's also all the micro transaction stuff, that comment was probably only made to distract people from that detail ]

Completely agree, free from useless localizations and dubs, fast release worldwide, avoid swjs, anime haters, free from bigotry press reviewers and putitans.

Btw, if you live in europe like me and want a copy of the game you can check rice digital, a uk store that will sell this game without any additional shipping cost or custom taxes.

Support original games, boycott censored games and ignore movements pro censorship.

That Microsoft isn't paying for the localization costs and all that stuff anymore is totally unrelated, right?

I'm starting to wonder if the worry isn't so much of garnering criticism from journalists in the West (that never stopped Rockstar or Team Ninja from releasing games in the past), but of broad changes to overall cultural sensibilities amongst Western gamers that view this sort of content in a more negative light to the point of affecting sales. In my experience at least, the whole "pathetic weeaboo ronery otaku" perspective is a fairly popularly-held belief in gaming forums I frequent, and Western game developers and audiences these days do seem to be a lot more conscientious about the treatment of female characters in gaming too. I wonder if Tecmo foresees that overall atmosphere as translating to poor sales in the modern generation of Western gaming.

Even the same localization teams are bad in some cases, see the last Blade & Soul (mmorpg) censorship made by the same NcWest translator to some quest dialogues because he find it misogynyst. I didn't believed it untill i read the direct comment from the same translator. =_=

Localizations and journalists both are cancer for the asian industry, they move attention to futile things and target niche games because they are easy to put shit on.

Gonna buy the game just to spite the guys who would rather have it not released, even if I don't have the console.

That's quite a crushing blow to quite a huge chunk of the Dead or Alive fanbase that were desperate to see a Western debut. Sad
Oh well... Looks like it's importing time, then (assuming one has plenty of cash on hand)...

Was wondering when this thread would start taking on the gamergate undertones? (And to me the entire gamergate just goes to show IMHO how little grip on reality that millennials have concerns over such trite, with consideration to REAL issues that impact the world we all live in)

Frankly the concept of "gaming journalists" sounds lame beyond all common logic. Maybe that's because I have grandkids now. I still remember quite clearly the 70s-early 90's, the words of western parents ridiculing kids about how they are wasting their time and lives for simply playing video games.

With that said, I'm surprised for a Japanese spokesman (unless I'm mistaken) to be quite definitive in such an answer. That's pretty untypical to use such definite language as "there will never be any plans"

If the demand is there for an English or US/UK or where ever release the almighty ¥¥¥ will lead to a western release of the game.

I hope this story keeps getting interesting.

Koei Tecmo seems to attribute the problem to everything but lack of confidence in sales. Any good business knows that, if the market and profit is there, it is feasible to release a product despite social environments.

There is still plenty of sexualization in the USA and other Japanese developers are releasing games with similar sexualized content as DOA. A few people on the internet is unlikely to be the entire reason why Koei Tecmo is not localizing DOAX3.

From this recent controversy, DOAX3 likely has gotten more press than it would have if it was localized as usual. I believe that KT is really trying to subtly hint that the preferred option is to import so that they don't have to put more work into localization and manufacturing stateside. They should at least get the angry consumer purchase that way.

If you hate arguments for just for being arguments, here's a helpful tip; don't get invoked in arguments. Comments like this never contribute to anything, not to mention your other criticism can be applied to both sides of that dumb internet fight.
