We'll definitely get more characterization later but the second volume really introduces the main cast and establishes some rivalries too. Definitely one of the more fun series I've been reading the last few months. I hope the anime adaptation will be able to capture the magic of this series.

Can't wait to see what BONES do with this. Honestly don't care if they go anime original once the anime is a great one and they capture the soul of the series. So excited.
On a side note -
Horikoushi's art style Very Happy

Well I can't say I was expecting another volume review so so but so be it. The first time going through this, these sets of chapters, or specifically the battle trial against bakugou would have been my least favorite. Not because I thought the action, arc or even character motivations were bad but because it was EXACTLY the kind of thing people would bring up when they'd say "THIS IS THE NEXT NARUTO GUYZ!!". It's not like I can't see some inspiration from it and Horikoshi himself said it was his 'youth' but I don't want to read Naruto I want to read Horikoshi Kohei's My hero academia. Thankfully, even in the face of this 'loser kid' over coming his bully battle, things remain consistently believable throughout and I really did like how the battle concluded.

While there will definitely be adolescent issues and growing up these students will do, if there's one thing that I feel is totally safe to say about my hero academia now, it's that it does not waste ANY time to get from one action story arc set piece to another. It doesn't (exactly) feel rushed but Horikoshi will only spend like 1 chapter to provide some breathing room after a major conflict only for another to show up or have something really major to reveal. In this volume's case it's Ida's chapter and yeah while it's an extremely simple if not rote thing I still appreciated it for going out of it's way to establish some more of it's other cast, and it doesn't even come off as pointless given the next arc.

And with this art style being about as me as you can get with the exception of some hard edged lines, I can definitely say I'm a huge sucker for the art.

I'm surprised people have an issue with MHA's pacing. For me it's the most concise and to the point series about right now.

Of course, this could just be because it's still a relative young 'un, but compared to the recently concluded Dressrosa arc in One Piece or....whatever the hell's going on in Toriko right now, MHA get's through it's arc's like a hot knife through butter.

I don't have a problem with it's pacing either, Part of me feels like it had to do with this being it's pre 100 chapter phase but in general the series moves pretty quickly and doesn't dawdle with too many side plots. I feel like once the series gets the security of being over 100 chapters (if there really is any in that, this is jump after all.) we might get longer story arcs, but Horikoshi in general just feels like a person who writes in a fast pace. Compare this to the first 100 chapters of one piece where there were about 6 arcs that made a total of 100 chapters (and this isn't to speak ill of OP, I love that manga but even I can tell you it moves at a slugs pace). MHA has about 7 or so under it's belt and it's just now reaching the 70s mark in chapter count. I wouldn't be surprised if we get another arc or two after the current one.

If there were any problems I could see people having it's that spoiler[ When we get put in a tournament or mass group like setting where multiple characters are fighting at once, you will not see everybody fight. Midoriya for sure, and a few glimpses of a couple others but not full on chapters dedicated solely to them. For me personally, I'm perfectly fine with this because it keeps the pace up and we can save the thrill of seeing some of these students fight more significant battles, but I can imagine some people being a bit torn up at the fact that not every match in the last stretch of the school festival arc gets an equal share in screen time as well as the student vs teacher battles just recently and having no idea how some students even passed.] Also with this being a classroom setting with multiple characters, I can imagine people wanting some of the other students in Deku's class to get some more development and focus, but not only will they probably get it later (because the manga has been pretty good in sharing info about other characters) MHA isn't a slife of life manga with that kind of pacing and that's fine.
