Gowther has Good and Evil inside him.

spoiler[Maybe that whole crazy doll slash one of the Ten Commandments makes a little more sense now.]

Very interesting and enlightening article!
It's always nice to see other people who were/are obssessed with the Arthurian legend Wink
There are so many versions of it floating around that it lends itself easily to different interpretations, which is, I think, why it's still popular and adaptations or stories based around it pop up every so often.

Edit: small question about Elaine: I've read a version where she actually marries Lancelot but dies of grief (or something similar, I don't remember all the details) when she finds out he's still in love with Guinevere. Is this just another version of the one imprisoned in the tower?

The problem is that is not a Netflix series it aired on Japanese TV first, so they just have the streaming rights I'd guess. I do take back that this a problem with the article if that's what the articles description meant, but I found it misleading (as in Netflix had a role in making it which they did not.) so I thought I'd say something.

It's just a "Netflix original series" in the west, as you said, they have the exclusive -streaming- rights of the series in most, if not all, countries in which netflix operates. The title is indeed misleading, but it's just a quote of what Netflix says in their site. Once again, this is just pure marketing wording.

Still, it's quite interesting how the author decided to go deep into the arthurian myth, even before arthur himself (or herself lol) ascends to the throne, and without spoiler[(for now) centering around him after introducing him as a character].

spoiler[Still, it would have been nice if you commented on Escanor, Merlin, and some other characters too, seeing as how Escanor has already been presented and all, and his "characteristics" being that peculiar intrigues me even more than any of the other characters, though that might be because it took so long to see him, heh.]

That's a different Elaine - Elaine the daughter of Pelles. She tricks Lancelot into sleeping with her by posing as Guinevere and they conceive Galahad before she dies. (Seriously, there are a ton of Elaines.)

@chronos02
spoiler[I think Escanor is likely based off of the one in L'Atre Perilleux whose strength grows during the day (peaking at noon) and lessens at night, but I'm not willing to write off other Escanors yet.] It was a hard decision not to include Merlin in this, but there's just so much on the original that it would have turned into a whole article just on him.

As someone who knows absolutely nothing about Arthurian lore but loves SDS, I appreciate that you took the time to put this all together!

It's interesting how many parallels the characters have with the figures they're based off of, especially Diane and spoiler[her giant master Matrona who plays a large role in Diane's past and why she became a Sin. ]

And Gowther having both Good and Evil inside him due to his parents makes even more sense with the revelation that Gowther spoiler[is a living doll who is both a Sin and a demon of the Ten Commandents.]

I'm 90% sure he's going to bring in a Morgan later, especially since Matrona has direct mythological ties to her. And if he doesn't, I will find him. Twisted Evil

Oh, and TheJaceX, if I don't get a chance to write another of these for the second season, feel free to pm me with questions. Smile

Suzuki Nakaba's first series, Rising Impact, is an even more overt retelling of the Arthurian legend.

As a golf series.

Very interesting read. I had some knowledge of the Arthurian legend before reading SDS, but this article makes me want to do more research so I can pick up on other references.

apparently Netflix funded the Dub and used Aniplex as the dubbing company, if true they did in fact have a role in making it

although they did the same for Knights of Sidonia and that got a release so i hope Seven Deadly Sins will too

so in a way its kinda the same thing that cartoon network did for Big O II since they funded the dub and used animaze/zero limit productions as the dubbing studio. that makes sense. Confused
