I will go ahead and assume that this will be a Sentai title. I do not plan to watch it at the moment, but the premise sees okay.

Is it just me, or does this seem like a hackneyed premise? It sounds like a cross between Psycho-Pass and Yakushiji Ryoko no Kaiki Jikenbo. Any ideas on why the Japanese seem so fixated on shows about dysfunctional social and political structures? (Yes, I know the recent history and economic issues, but is this sense of malaise as pervasive in the public at large as it sometimes seems when looking at what comes from anime studios these days?)

Orange is doing the CGI? While I know the budget won't be as high, if it's anywhere near as good as their work on Akito's CG mecha, it'll certainly please.

I do not see anything exclusively relevant to Psycho Pass here, unless you want to argue that show suddenly came up with the concept of introducing a new person (male or female) into an existing police unit within a setting where crime is an issue, when in fact that vague premise has been done before in a lot of other unrelated stories.

Honestly, this show seems to take place in a far, far less bleak and more optimistic type of setting, especially because we have colorful power armors involved in heroic activities. The mood is a lot lighter and less heavy. Even if this version of Tokyo has to deal with crime and other problems, it seems to be a more lively place. I don't think there will be any nefarious Sibyl System ruling over people from behind the scenes.

I was reacting to "But her true goal is to rehabilitate this sloppy, haphazard, justice-less group."

That's also nothing new or unusual as a story concept, nor would I really attempt to describe the premise of Psycho Pass in that way either. Akane wanted to change the entire system, for obvious reasons, and not a single unit, which should be enough to conclude that micro and macro levels are not interchangeable.

At this rate, I hope we're not supposed to ignore any previous precedents of similar situations in anime, like when wide-eyed idealist Ai Tanabe was introduced into the reckless and disorganized Debris Section at the very start of Planetes. Worse, she had short red/brown hair too, so I guess that type of female character has now been retroactively copyrighted by Gen Urobuchi? Nah.
