TV anime? It doesn't necessarily says it'll be the same running format as a short, right?

Is it alright to expect a normal 20-minute episode from this? Oh gee, I'm so hyper... Laughing

Sounds interesting! Looking forward to seeing another Shinkai inspired anime.

FYI, She and Her Cat comes on the Voices of a Distant a Star DVD release, not the 5 Centimeters Per Second release.

The series will air in Ultra Super Anime Time block, so it's definitely a shorts series.

Last season consisted of Miss Monochrome 3, Hacka Doll and Kagewani with 7-8 minutes per episode for each series. So I would expect episodes with a similar length here.

So does the cat talk or are we getting a voice actor credit for someone who makes cat sounds??

Oh boy, Hanazawa Kana in it...
Not really a fan with her voice unless she portray it with different than 80% of her previous character roles.

So I suppose, Makoto Shinkai is not involved in the production (apart from his work being an inspiration)?

If this gets Shinkai's CoMix Wave 'detailed-and-shiny-backdrops' treatment, at least, then I'm hyped. Though I doubt that, too.

Yes, the cat does talk. (Or at least it did in the original short.)

IIRC (it's been a long time since I watched it), the original was played straight and involved the cat's observations about his lonely-seeming owner and how he fit in to her life. It was more heartfelt than you might think, and I could definitely see the concept working in a short episode format. Regardless, I'm going to give it a try.

IIRC it's not like the cat actually talks with her, but that the story is from its perspective, so you can hear his thoughts or something like that

I remember watching the original short and wanting to see more so this is welcome news. I can't wait to see how it turns out!

Just confirmed. I have ADV's 5 Cm release and it is NOT included on it. You are right.

Fun fact: Shinkai voiced the cat, Shobi, himself. (e: Oh, it's also in the news.) Shobi also had a cameo appearance in 5 Centimeters Per Second.

Anyway, I think this will be very cute. Definitely different from the original, but the premise alone is enough.

So, this news made me go out and watch the short for the first time. All I can sway is...

It was precious. Instant favorite of mine.

That's interesting. And a tv series to boot. That's a first for a Makoto Shinkai production.

Hmm, never though She and Her Cat would ever receive news like this, especially without Shinkai's explicit involvement (as far as one can tell at this point). I'm not quite sure it really needs one, either, given how well it worked as its own little short, but the premise alone can easily be expanded upon. Can it be as touching without Shinkai's distinctive touches? Who's to say…

This is the area where I'll be watching the most. IMO, Shinkai's voice and style really made the short click above all else. I hope they stay in the same vein for the TV series.
