While I have found stuff from this season that I like, I would like to suggest that everyone who likes anime watch Lupin III (2015). Holy freaking hell, is it good. Now, don't be like me and let yourself be fooled by the first 2 episode. I though those 2 episodes were really weak, and I stopped watching. BIG MISTAKE. At least wait till they introduce Nix. Also, a few episodes should be renamed.

04: Jigen is a badass - the episode.
06: Zenigata is a badass - the episode.
09: Goemon is a badass - the episode.

I was just thinking that it would be nice to have an ANN Cast to discuss the new anime season, and there it is. Thank you, Hope and Zac, for taking the time to record this show.

I think I finally got Hope's reasoning of why this is a weak/lackluster/bad anime season. I am actually pleased by what I plan to follow. I am excited and interested by Snow White, Durarara!!, Rakugo, ERASED and Grimgar. And there is fun and silly stuff like Active Raid and Dagashi.

I agree that the new Lupin show is special and that it feels like the ideal Lupin. I will be very, very interested if you have a future ANN Cast dedicated to Lupin III, Part IV.

And while it's not as gritty or as well-written as the Fujiko series from a few years ago, it's more accessible, and has plenty of great stories.

I loved the first episode, though. The second and fourth were weak. But any episode with Nix as a main plot element is great and Rebecca has grown on me.

Also of note, Tony Oliver, Richard Epcar, and Michelle Ruff are returning to their Red Jacket series roles as Lupin, Jigen, and Fujiko for the dub of the show. No word on Lex Lang yet. I'm really looking forward to it.

As a newcomer to Lupin, three episodes in this new one and yes, it's really cool, and the greatness and consistency of the animation is amazing.

I've watched the polls for the shows after this season and honestly I don't think it looks that good? At least in my opinion, most of what people seem excited are sequels, from the new stuff there's nothing I've seen that's remarkable so far. We'll see when it comes out, but anyway. This season pretty weak, yes.

btw Hope, if you were already fascinated with the differences in characterization of Mikado and Izaya in the first Durarara novel, wait for the second one with Shizuo because that's another really interesting one where you can compare how different attitudes they took with him in each media. Unlike Mikado and Izaya I wouldn't say the LN is clearly better because Shizuo in the anime is really good, but it's still fascinating.

I'm definitely gonna have to be the wierdo here because this season has so far been a breath of fresh air. I mostly say that because, for me, 2015 was probably the worst year for me as an anime fan with literally only 2 shows I really loved and thought were cool (death parade and one punch man) and everything else either being garbage, ok or the most severe case of "NOT MY BAG" that I can think of. I mean there's finally a season where I'm watching TWO shows that are good and don't feel like a chore to watch? that's more than ANY season I can recall from last year. Of course that's also because I was a lot stricter in watch I watched because conversely 2015 was a year of a lot of changes for me IRL so anime had to be put on the back burner. Regardless it wasn't that hard to do so.

Erased had a pretty great premier and personally didn't have any issues with pace, but I do hope this doesn't turn out to be one of those shows that has a really great beginning and shits the bed later. I haven't trusted A-1 pictures with much in a while and with what I'm hearing about the original manga ending being shown before the manga wraps up (which has over 8 volumes of content.) It's not hard for me to be a little skeptical, but I'm more optimistic than anything. The Rakugo show is probably my favorite of the season so far because yeah, its very rare to see a show like this and after 2015 it gave me the most refreshing feeling I've had from watching anime in a while. I will agree it's a niche thing and that you do have to be in the mood for it. I was like that for My love story, which was good but DAMN it's too sweet for me and I had nothing to balance it out with, which makes me all the more happy that stuff like Dimension W, Dagashi Kashi and others are there to provide me with my more traditional source of entertainment.

AND OH YES LUPIN, was it worth having you delayed until now! Granted I've only seen about 4 episodes and I'm not that partial to episode 2 or parts of 1 but it's been a really fun ride so far. I've seen some really cool animated clips from catsuka and now it's just a rush to get caught up so I'm not left behind and get any really cool stuff spoiled for me. Again, I have never felt this secure about a season in a long time, I've got some shows that actually respect that I have a brain, shows that respect that I have a brain but don't require that much mental input and the animation of Lupin (If fantasy of ash shits the bed like I'm fearing it will I'd feel a lot less bad about it now.)

That and I didn't really watch a lot of the terrible stuff so... I'm good as far as Winter's concerned.

I heard cats in the distance.

Studio Deen? So I guess all of their talent went to the Rakugo show huh?

Probably no one but me will care here but for me this spring, there's only one show that matters (if they get the animation right) and that's My hero academia. Its the first time I've ever seen something from Shonen Jump and be a battle series get this kind of special treatment right off the bat (some count Blood Blockade Battlefront or One Punch Man but those are such different things that I can't count them.) It's also the first time in along time I'm excited about an adaptation like this in general because I love assassination classroom and Food Wars's manga but their anime isn't something I'm bending over backwards to watch. This looks like a bit of a game changer in that sense (though I in no way think this will be the actual best show or the season, just the one I'm comping at the bit to see the most.)

Zac you must really have fun doing these Rightstuf commercials.

In spite of my general disdain for Light Novels having read a few of them for stuff like Index, I can definitely agree on the range thing and a lot of times I can find something that might make me appreciate something more. That said since I've outgrown Index I really don't have much in the way of motivation to go read them anymore aside from possibly Durarara or the Devils a part timer but who knows.

I'm interested by the recent growth of Light Novels in English, though I haven't fully warmed to them myself. I've bought a few on my iPad for the sake of in-flight fiction… I didn't really care for Kagerou Daze, although I think between Mekakucity Actors and the manga, I've just burned out on what little story is actually there, and accepted that the original songs are really the essential text for that franchise. I read through The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya on one business trip, though I'm not enough of a fan of that franchise to push ahead further.

Probably the LN series I've liked the most so far is Book Girl, which suffers here because its one anime adaptation remains unlicensed (I think?), but the stories are smart and the translation helps to clarify all the references to Japanese novels that the BG stories are riffing on.

Frankly, though, all my hopes are for the Baccano! light novels, so I can finally find out what happened after the series ended.

EDIT: Oh crap, I forgot about Strawberry Panic. That counts, right? Absolute trash, but super fun absolute trash.

Big fan of the show, started listening to the podcast around episode 20 and went back to episode one and have been listening ever since.

1)There's a disappointing trend happening on the podcast now that has compelled me to join the forums and note my displeasure. Hopefully this doesn't start an argument between Zac and Hope, but please stop talking over Hope and also please help or guide guests to stop talking over Hope. It's a common thing in podcasts for women to be talked over and it's annoying me to no end. I'm a cis gendered male in my 30s, so I know I'm probably preaching to the choir of super liberals but it's been happening too much.

2) I didn't watch Konosoba so I don't really have an opinion about that show, but when Hope was giving her opinion about how it is a very sexist approach towards that female character, Zac went on to minimize what she was trying to say. I'm going to write some fan fiction here and assume that Zac didn't want the fans to be pigeonholed and may have been trying to be over protective so that she did not draw the ire of a bunch of cry baby children which was a good reaction to that, but then trying to minimize her own opinions whether Zac realized it or not, that it is a valid thing to say, "Hey this is how some jerks may view women". Maybe acknowledge the difference in opinions without trying to totally erase the sentiment.

3) Just wanted to say that Zac is one my favorite podcasters, I love the show and his opinions, the over talking shit has to ease up

I think you'll have to watch Konosuba and form your own opinion, I didn't get the misogynistic vibe Hope was getting at all when I was watching it, (and yes, I am female) but it is about two people being nasty to each other, and I can see some of the things they say to each other rubbing people the wrong way. (Even if it goes both ways and they sort out their differences in the end enough to share a "bed" without the dude even once leering at her breasts or trying to cop a feel. At least not in the first episode we'll see how #2 goes.)

I think it would be cool if Zac worked for an ad company. He is one person that I would like to see doing such a job. I could associate an ad with someone who does a lot of cussing rants on a podcast. Don't worry, Zac, I like your rants.
