Interesting. I actually did feel like that was deliberate. This review was pretty good and touched on a lot of the issues that I had with it. I felt like a big problem this film had was with pacing and overall length. Had they had more time to explore those serious themes, and further develop the system it would have been much better, in my opinion. I did still enjoy it for it's technical merits, which I found to be unbelievably good. I also am a huge fan of Kantoku's character designs, and his sense of style is always great as well. Not sure if he was the one designing the outfits for this, in particular, but they ranged from utterly adorable, to sexy, to just cool. For me, this film was eye candy on all fronts. Cute girls, great design-work, good animation, but unfortunately, it was pretty lacking in the story. It was nice having such easy access to it through Crunchyroll. I would like to buy the PonyCan release, because it looks great, but I don't think my enjoyment was quite worth $72. |

even though I did preorder this from rightstuf my only complaint was that it needed to be at least 30mins longer but it was still enough as it to merit me buying it.

An extra 30 minutes would have done a LOT for both the story and the value of the product, for sure. I wouldn't have quite as hard of a time swallowing the price if this was more movie length. 67 minutes was just not quite enough time. There was that whole section that felt almost like a slide-show/montage that really could have been expanded on nicely with more time. |

I'm rather glad to see opinions similar to my own about this movie, since I saw Expelled from Paradise (which has similarities to the overall idea) a few days before, and I wasn't sure if I was judging this on its own, or in comparison to Expelled from Paradise.
I wanted to fall asleep in the middle of this one. |

So I just watched this, and one of the first things that comes to mind is "cute girls doing cute things in The Matrix". The artistry was top notch, the girls were cute, but the story was "eh". I wasn't expecting a deep story so I still enjoyed it. Not enough to shell out for physical discs, but it was still a decent watch.
It really does feel like the movie was heavily inspired by The Matrix. The whole thing with food being delicious reminded me of the steak scene, among other things. |

I felt like the biggest issue with this movie was that it's about 60% exposition, 30% cute girls being cute, and 10% action. If you're wondering where the storytelling fits into that pie chart, well, so am I. There was plenty of story packed in there, but almost all of it was told instead of shown, and it never seemed like it had a sense of direction. Maybe it needed to be longer; although, cutting out the cute scenes of cuteness would have freed up a lot of time...
The scene right near the beginning with Dual and the piano-girl was actually really good, though, and would have been even better if they'd cut the redundant narration from before that and showed more of the seemingly-normal world before the twist of the spoiler[virus destroying everything]. Would have been a dramatic, and properly show-don't-tell, intro to the whole thing. After that part, though, the movie got bogged down by constant explanations and cuteness, making it hard to understand and/or care what was going on. Interesting ideas, pretty animation, but otherwise kind of a mess. |
