Ever played the Melty Blood games?

That's what I was going to ask. Are we supposed to wait for a major plot point in the series?

While I don't know how it'd be done with sprites, I have seen it done with 3-D models for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. In addition to if Roll was present, you had the giant characters, whose attack animations were noticeably different if your opponent happened to be another giant.

There's also Yoda in Soul Calibur IV, though that's also with 3-D models (obviously).
