Don't count out this manga just yet. Do a google search for "Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa" and you will see what this manga truly has to offer. Yes, it has humble beginnings, but quite quickly, the comedy steals focus, and the chapters become even more absurd. I implore people to give it a shot beyond the first volume.

This manga is one of the funniest things currently in publication, in no small part thanks to its faces.

While I haven't read heaps of harem manga, I've seen a good number of harem anime...and I'd have to say that this is one of the funnier debuts I've seen/read, when it comes to harems.

I find that all the characters feel genuine, which makes all but a certain "journalist" endearing. And, surprisingly (or not?), there's already a difference in how some of the reveals have been timed when compared to the anime (which I saw before getting into the manga).

I enjoyed the anime quite a bit, until its cheap, cop-out non-ending of an ending. If this manga actually reaches a conclusion, i'm sure it will be worth checking out.

Is the story original to the manga, or is it based on light novels?

when i was comparing manga and the anime the ending was kinda bit different and also the anime sold really badly around 500 each volume or smth like that dont remember exact numbers but anyway it was simply bad...So if people liked the anime and want more just stick to the manga^^ And ye the anime was based of the manga.

The manga is the source material, it's ongoing with 15 volumes released already. The anime really mixed and matched a lot of random chapters together since they had to avoid introducing too many characters without reaching a conclusion by the end of 12 episodes.

Personally, I can't stand most harem anime because they tend to fall into one of two categories: Takahashi-style (where the male and female lead spend 499 chapters fighting and screaming at each other, then suddenly decide to become a couple in the last one) and Akamatsu-style (where the female lead is a violent psychopath while the male lead is a meaningless doormat). Simply put, your story should not make me say "Neither of these horrible monsters should ever be allowed to reproduce."

Jitsu Wa, though, is a fine example of how to do the harem thing right. The characters may be flawed, but at no point did I ever find myself hating any of them (in fact, they'd all make pretty good friends as long as you didn't mind getting swept up in the zany antics). And while the relationship stuff does get dragged out, it's due to natural factors like characters' uneasiness rather than magical resets, and things DO actually progress over time. While the early art and story can be a little rough, kind of like Matsuda was still deciding what he wanted to do with the series, it picks up steam pretty quickly, and every single chapter I've read has made me burst out laughing at least once. I've gladly recommended it to my friends, and I'd do the same for anyone on these boards who's reading these comments out of curiousity.

I thought the anime was a pretty good adaptation, but the staff emphasized the comedy aspect a little too much and let the character development only occur in one spot (the swimming lessons). It wasn't terrible, but rather than a replacement for the manga as some anime adaptations are, it should just be viewed as a "foot in the door".

Manga stopped being harem long time ago and now even Asahi's trio of friends are getting love interests.
