Awesome. Not too surprising but the comedy is good in this series so I look forward to it. Also hoping for another season of Barakamon someday Smile

Had barakamon on the watch list for a while and seems like it will stay so now for bit longer since this is sort of a prequel gonna watch this first then^^

More Barakamon anime is a good thing, but I rather see a sequel to the existing anime series.

Funimation also has the home video rights to the series

I assume Funimation has home video rights to Barakamon, but I don't recall Funimation saying that they are doing a physical release for it.

Of course you can do as you like, but Handa-kun was written after (and now alongside) Barakamon, so it's not really intended to be watched/read first. It's told in a 4-panel gag-manga format for one, and I see it more as a supplement to give extra insight into Handa's character (what helped shape him, backstory). If your first impression of him is through the spinoff, you may not fully appreciate the character as he is in the "present" (the main series).

YAAAY!!

I found myself laughing more reading the first volume of Handa kun than watching BArakamon, actually, so this is very very very good news. So excited!

As for the order of watching things, personally I think it's more fun to read/watch Handa kun after watching at least part of Barakamon so you can get a grasp of Handa sensei's personality first. Knowing how he's like in present day makes reading about his past more funny.

While Handa kun is set before Barakamon, it's probably better to refer to it as a spin off than a prequel, similar to how Sinbad no Bouken is a spin off of Magi.

It's more of a spin off than prequel. Like, "how was he during high school".

It will ruin the magic of both series if you don't start with Barakamon first.

I too would prefer a continuation, but at least this will introduce me to to some of the creators other work. I thoroughly enjoyed Barakamon and hope that this will be just as enjoyable.

Yes! I loved Barakamon greatly, and while it isn't a second season of it, more material about the manga's universe is always welcome Smile

Great, a prequel/spin off where we'll learn... what actually made Barakamon good?

Funny or not, it could be anyone in any high school setting who happens specializes in calligraphy- for some , it's making violins, hey I don't judge. So what's the point of this?
Handa, his friend, his, ugh, parents from the main series would show... would have shown up... and we get to see utterly him fail to grow up as both a man and an artist so he can do that in the main series, thanks mostly to that cast and setting.

Hey, let's have a Yotsuba spinoff where we get to see what's his name and Jumbo in high school and call it "Life/! Without Yotsuba". If Watamote was a success, would we have gotten the prequel/spinoff of that one when Tomoko was in middle school?

Huh, I may not check this one out. Sure, it may be nice to see how Handa got to the stage we see him at at the begging of Barakamon, but a lot of the charm of Barakamon isn't in Handa himself...but rather the situation he is in and the surroundings he has found himself in.

Feel like this isn't something I'd be interested in. I'll wait and hope for more Barakamon anime.
