Haven't seen the original series yet but I was quite surprised and amused at the first episode with the parodies. I think that might of been just a special one time case thing though. Still, quite a funny show imo for this season, perhaps one of the funniest one for this season.

This series cracks me up! Just put in pre-orders for all the BDs this morning.

I'm getting a hang of telling the brothers apart before they start speaking. Juushimatsu for example always has a his mouth wide open like a little kid, and Todomatsu has that innocent look.

Oh, and here's a picture someone drew and put up on Twitter before the series premier to help people tell the difference between the brothers.

I'm glad the first episode was a one time thing in terms of parodies. Obviously they had a lot to catch up on in the last 27 years.

Second episode was really good and I liked the second half best and I'm happy to see that they can be funny without relying on references and breaking the fourth wall. Osomatsu reacting aggressively to Chibita's cliched speech was hilarious to me but that might have been because I have 6 siblings myself.

Amazing voice cast too. Juushimatsu is probably my favourite. He's just way too damn happy to hate.

Episode 2 did make some references to Kaiji during its first half. The entire speech the factory's president gives them reminded me of Tonegawa's speech (hell, their appearances are even similar), and of course there's the use of the "zawa zawa" onomatopeia.

All in all, it was a fun episode, and I'm eager to see more.

To be honest, it kind of felt like the first episode was supposed to get out all of the anime shoutouts in one go so they could focus on making the rest of the show the best it could be. It certainly worked: The boys caught the public eye again by pulling out everything they thought would make them relevant, then continued on their path. As a result, the more meta first episode and the more SOL second episode both have their charms, and come off as funny in separate ways.

The ending theme was pretty solid, too.

I am not finding it very hard to differentiate between the brothers. The producers made a very smart choice in having six fairly prolific voice actors as the Matsunos, letting me use shorthand in my head like "Kamiya Hiroshi Matsu," "Daisuke Ono Matsu," and so on. Fukuyama Jun's Ichimatsu is easily my favorite thus far though - I can relate too much.

First, Shinji Takamatsu directs Cute High Earth Defense Club Love, and now Yoichi Fujita's doing this. Not surprisingly, broad traces of Gintama are present in both. (Not a complaint, mind you.)

I came for the cast. I will stay for the humor.
Well, and the cast, as they're apparently having a blast doing this show, along with the crew. I still need them to start talking in order to tell them apart (also using the "Sakurai Matsu", "Kamiya Matsu" way of doing things), but that Twitter image was helpful, thanks, GokuMew2.

Well it's quite easy to tell them apart once they speak. I also would take out the "fairly" in "fairly prolific;" these guys are quite prolific. Wink

You're welcome. Smile
And I'm the same as you. The cast is what got my (and thousands of other fangirls') attention, but the series is definitely holding up on its own.

Already put in my pre-orders at HMV since they offer a bonus storage box if you buy all 4 volumes but ugh, I hate HMV Online's website. They don't even allow you to ship upon release unless you place separate orders (and therefore won't get the multi-purchase price). Mad

Personally for the character designs I liked the whole 2016 look, But I guess a classic is a classic.

The first episode was the most weird and funny I have ever seen in anime (and i have been watching anime for years) , because usually first episodes don't usually jump the gun when it comes to comedy.
Does anyone else think this 1 episode broke the world record for most anime references/parodies in a single episode!?

I hadn't exactly been anticipating this series, but I wound up really enjoying it. I checked it out because of Takahiro Sakurai, but the humor's been fun. I'm also a sucker for these legacy, pop-culture relevant shows. I'm hoping NISA or Sentai licenses it. Funimation is unlikely at this point.

Initially, it was a little difficult to differentiate the six, mostly when they weren't speaking. Their quirks aren't always as visibly obvious as, for example, Ichimatsu's downtrodden look. The second half of the second episode helped the most because it had Osomatsu interacting with them individually. I've got 'em down now.

Choromatsu = Best Boy

The only way for me to recognize them is by hearing their voices. So far, the only one I don't have problems with is Choromatsu, mostly because he is voiced by one of my favorite voice actors, Hiroshi Kamiya.

The series has been hit or miss so far. The parody elements were the best in the first episode, but somehow the comedy starts to get lame two or three jokes after. In the secons episode I enjoyed the second part more than the first one, as most of the black fabric joke was not working for me. I'll keep watching it, though, because the series has potential to be one of the best comedies of the season.

And on a side note, when I saw : "The Melancholy of Osomatsu", I thought they were going to parody The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. And to be honest, that would have been amazing, given that the show can really make a good parody if they want.

Loving this so far, but I'm hoping someone with a good grounding in Japanese culture starts doing an "Osomatsu annotated" site. Most of the jokes dependent on that knowledge are flying right over my head (like the dude in the statue joke in the first part of ep 2, for instance).
