Does anyone know what these novels are like? Hard Scifi (trying to get as close to real life physics as possible), scifi/fantasy(a wide range of things can fit here), or scifi-themed (not much is put on the scifi other then that the story takes place in the future or with scifi technology but mostly very character driven and personal)?

Those aren't official means for the terms but just how I kinda seem them. So anyone know what they are like?

I have no idea what the novels are like.

I don't like how they say they are keeping Western audiences in mind (I hope this doesn't mean that they will leave out some references to Japanese culture in hope to not alienate Western markets), but I do like how they are going to be using CG in Japanese taste.

I love studio Gonzo, anyway.

The Japanese site we got this news from said, " we are
looking forward to GONZO's answer to what Japanese 3DCG taste looks like."

If it's going to be anything like Soukyuu no Fafner but done by Gonzo, belt up for the ultimate 3d-overblown-super-angst-hyper-mecha-fest-anime of all time. I think.

I'll either really hate it or really like it, I guess... I still am not convinced that Gonzo is good, I've disliked most of their projects (but I ended up watching them anyway... why?)

I'd say the latter. I haven't read it, but it sounds similar to Gunnm (Battle Angel Alita). The author is Ubukata Tou... his historical fantasy manga Pilgrim Jäger (illustrated by Itou Mami) is pretty cool, so I'd expect a lot from this. Here are the covers of Mardock Scramble at his official site (illustrated by Terada Katsuya):I translated the publisher's synopsis of volume 1, here it is:
    "Why me?" The cries of the girl prostitute Barrot were silenced in an explosive blaze by the schemes of the gambling czar Shell, but she was saved from the verge of death by a doctor at the Department of Delegated Affairs and the versatile mouse-shaped weapon "Ufkok." Resurrected and endowed with an advanced power of electronic interference, Barrot tracks the crimes of Shell's organization, but an enemy commander stands in her way: Boyld, the abusive former partner of Ufkok, who slaughtered all he could... The violent fury explodes like a gunshot in this 3-volume series.
I don't know if I transliterated the names correctly... Confused Somehow "Boiled" and "Oofcock" don't look l33t enough.

to put it short, as the author says in the epilogue, "it's a story about a girl, her enemies and a weapon*"

I haven't read the books, but judging the comments/mini reviews I read, as also stated by some reviewers, sometimes even comparing the authors style to Gibson/Sterling, I'd say it's cyberpunk.

most acclaimed part seems to be a casino scene, making up nearly all of the story's 2nd half. It is the casino's gambling scenes that are said to be the best written parts of the books.

Well it prolly had to do with the fact that AXN-Asia enjoyed showing Gatekeepers and Vandread and Gonzo stuff, while not the best, is just so popular...

I have to say that while I haven't read any of Ubukata's stuff, anybody who watched Fafner would have to agree with me that the writing made a big improvement when he took over the scriptwriting. The way some of the lighter episodes' stories weaved into each other was really quite nice.

I'm not tooooo excited about the director though, while Gankutsuou is visually mindblowing, I can't say that a lot of the CG was to me in good taste...
