Overall, this manga doesn't offer much of anything new for people who have already experienced Persona 4's story before. If you want it again in another format, it's a solid but as-of-yet unexceptional adaptation.

Thanks for reviewing this. Maybe if I didn't already own the anime I would give the manga a shot, but sadly this re-affirms my previous decision to skip this particular adaptation. I love the characters to death, but I can't be alone in feeling some degree of "Persona 4 fatigue" at this point.

Thanks for the review. I'll probably pick up this adaptation at some point because I've always liked the Seta Souji characterization of the lead over the Yu Narukami variation, and the delving into Yosuke's head for this first volume sounds quite appealing.

Oh you are most definitely not alone. While I'm interested in picking up this manga, P4 has definitely been over exposed. P5 cannot come soon enough to give us a whole new group of characters to fall in love with.

I think the reviewer meant only volume 1 doesn't really offer up anything new. Souji Seta's personality is actually more like the Video Game!Yu Narukami than the Anime!Yu Narukami, and the manga actually goes about each arc a bit differently than the anime does. Also, while the manga has humor I feel like it takes itself a bit more seriously than the anime does. In later volumes and arcs you actually see some of the other characters' past (yes even Souji's), which I was sad was lacking on the anime's part (minus Chie and Yukiko of course). The manga itself is fairly good (better than the anime imo), yeah the first vol retreads the 4 hour prologue but there's nothing stopping you from just checking out (aka going in and sitting down and reading so you don't have to worry about wasting money, or just reading the scans online) the 3 volumes that have been released so far so that you can draw you're own conclusions on it. So yeah I wouldn't decide on passing it just yet since it really is a solid adaptation of the game (and more solid than the anime imo). Also the first volume of the P3 manga has been released (it's by the same guy who did the P4 manga so if you want a break from P4, why not taking a look at P3 instead Very Happy)

And hate for petty or arbitrary reasons.
