I'm shocked strategy guides in paper format are still a thing. When I worked for a few years in retail on the side a couple years back there was a rack of strategy guides that no one even thumbed through and never sold. I really wonder how they're staying afloat. Not meant to be mean about that, it genuinely interests me due to how unlikely it would seem.

Depends on the game. This is not the type of game for a physical strategy guide (or any strategy guide). However, JRPGs, especially ones that have puzzles, often have good strategy guides. I've always bought the guides for the Final Fantasy series for the treasure maps, missables, build tips, monster index, etc etc.

It's nice to have it visually instead of a wall of text on gamefaqs for certain things. But in most cases, I would say that guides are pretty irrelevant now

It depends on the fanbase as well, some like Dark Souls have a strong fanbase where they want to collect all books from these games. While I think most fans like to play the Souls games without a guide(at least the first playthrough) they still want the guide because it give details on the lore of the world & its characters/monsters that the game doesn't really give.

Personally I prefer physical strategy guide book over digital ebook or Gamefaqs/web guides.
