Geez, is that the only thing DMP is licencing now? Who knows, maybe they're deciding to move towards the specialized market rather than trying to slug it out with the big guys with mainstream titles.

Well they only have about four yaoi titles (Less than their regular titles) and they just started their yaoi subdivision, so it would be logical to liscense more yaoi titles. So, what I'm trying to say is that there really isn't a reason to get all huffy.

That might sort of make sense. DMP have already got their specialised website to put them in direct contact with fans.

The yaoi market seems to be pretty substantial in relative terms and if they can create a following.....

DMP is putting out the best releases in terms of yaoi so any more from them is welcome in my opinion. Smile I'm hoping that if their yaoi division is successful and keeps growing, they'll start licensing longer and more well-known series (and keep them from being molested by Be Beautiful Wink ) I'm looking forward to these releases.

In the non-yaoi department, I have also been reading IWGP and am really enjoying that series as well. I'm willing to check out any of DMP's new titles once they're available, the only problem is finding them in stores. IWGP 3 has just been released and I haven't even seen vol. 2 at any store yet. Even online there always seems to be a delay anywhere from 2 weeks to several months (or confusion about actual release dates).

This is a company I'd like to support so I hope they can work on getting their books out on the shelves in a more "organized" fashion so they're a litte easier to find and keep track of. In the meantime, I'll be ordering/buying all of the yaoi they put out even though I've never heard of any of them Razz .

Well, yaoi fans tend to be more willing to pay more for yaoi titles. Even if they hear they're bad, most yaoi fans will still buy them. DMP's prices are higher than the average manga publishers, so they keep to titles that have huge groups of fans(Trigun, Hellsing, Ring) that would be willing to pay a few extra bucks and titles that the yaoi fandom will buy, despite the higher than average price tag.

Higher prices but better production than what darkhorse is putting out. 14 Buck for Berserk is outrageous especially that DMP book are bigger in size (think vagabond) and has a nice dusk jacket. My IWGP and Worst collection looks extremely nicer than most of the other standard manga and I never paid more than 7 buck for each new book through ebay. Very Happy. But you can always pick them up online store like amazon for 10 buck or less.

I can understand why DMp license more yaoi, it's doing really well for them. Most of thier fans are yaoi fans, but they did license Twilight of the Dark Master, which is a mature title and looks promising. I have yet to see the Dark Master movie though.

You make a good point. Let me add that it does depend on which company's higher price we're talking about. (Discounts aside) I'm willing to pay $12.95 blindly for DMP's yaoi manga, definitely. DMP has done, IMHO, an outstanding job of presenting their yaoi so far (especially in relation to the others who are doing the same) and they are worth every penny. Very Happy

Sadly, I buy the Be Beautiful yaoi titles, too, but a lot of yaoi fans aren't. The titles aren't what's bad, it's what BB is doing to them (which is selectively editting). For example, Kizuna is a very well known and popular title but a lot of fans aren't buying it because of the editting. Those books aren't presented any where near the level at which DMP present their books and they retail for $15.99. BB's higher price tag for yaoi sucks in general, but it is made that much more offensive because they aren't doing the right thing with their licenses/releases. On the other hand, DMP's slightly higher price is fine with me (and most others) because they seem to be dedicated to a quality product, not to mention the people buying their books.

I agree, I don't think most manga readers (who don't have to worry about being overly frugal Wink ) would mind paying a couple extra bucks for a popular title, particularly if its not coming from a TP or Viz-size company. But the fact that that the titles are treated and handled well makes paying a higher price more tolerable. To me, if DMP was doing a poor job with their books the higher price would be more of an issue than it is now.
