The theater listings have a mistake in them, too. It says it's playing the Tivoli Theatre in Kansas City, MO, but the Tivoli is actually in St. Louis, clear on the other side of the state. Also worth noting, the dates are wrong for St. Louis....it's playing here starting on April 1st.
Still, it'll be great to see this movie on the big screen....can't wait! |

Eh. It's "impressive" in the sense that they're blowing their limited release wad in major markets on its opening weekend, instead of slowly rolling it out across the country as is typically done with "platform releases." I was hoping for a rollout similar to Spirited Away, where I think it reached some 150 screens during its initial limited run, but it definitely feels like they're gonna dump it in theaters only to have the DVD come out mere months down the road. HINT TO SONY: People WANT to see this in theaters, but when you don't tell them about it and then make it impossible for those that manage to know about it, its kinda hard.  . I guess I'll have to download it, which sucks, I'd like to support anime in theatres but they don't ever give me the chance to . I actually want to watch this as a dub since Patrick Stewart is a voice in it, he is a great actor.

but thats typically like y'know 8-12 months before release. And if its good I do plan to buy, I just want to up ticket prices to encourage more releases.

Nah, anime films like this are usually on DVD within three or four months of their extremely limited theatrical release.
Sucks that you won't see it in theatres, but, for a niche film like this, they only put it in theatres where they think there would be enough concentrated demand to be worth it and where there are enough screens so that the "opportunity costs" of showing an anime film on a screen instead of showing something that would likely make a lot more money would be minimalized. |

Drive two hours to Buffalo, or drive two hours to Syracuse? Either way, I can't go by myself, and none of my family is going to want to go that far just to humor their anime fan of a son. Bring something to Rochester for once, all you large corporations! We're dying from just having Kodak and Xerox here!

I don't think it's out of the question that Rochester will get it, just you have to wait a week or two.
Ottawa seems to be in the same boat, but at least I didn't lose out on seeing it by moving from Montreal, which doesn't get it the first week either. |

That's right! RIT has one of the largest anime clubs around and nobody ever brings anything here! Anywho, looks like I'll have to do the 2 hours to Buffalo thing with some friends Friday. |

I got a free pass to watch steamboy in Taipei. I'm very tempted to go (its an hour train from Hsinchu to Taipei). I can be patient and wait for the DVD.
I can sort of understand the Japanese. My Manderin is not very good

You'd think a city like Seattle is being on the Pacific Rim with a large Asian population would be thought of for a limited release like this, but apparently Sony though otherwise. I've allways supported Anime on the big screen here - Going up to the University District to see Cowboy Bebop and Tokyo Godfathers on the only screen in the area showing these films. Paying $20 for parking in the poshest mall downtown just to pay another $10 to see Princess Mononoke before anybody in America knew Miyazaki's name. But could the last 2 major big-screen releases - Appleseed and Steamboy - grace my city? Of course not. As an Anime fan, it's kind of disheartening....
I'd allways drag a bunch of friends to these showings under the guise of getting bigger and better movies to come to us. I even went to see the Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! movies. I remember being so excited, spouting my mouth off about how we need to support all theatrical anime releases - no matter how small or insignificant - so Seattle is noticed and rewarded by the "Anime Gods". I guess that didn't work... I know that Texas and Michigan have big cities, but honestly, is there an Otaku population in Austin or Detroit that rivals Seattle? I just don't see it happening. |

Man, I watched a preview of this movie on the DVD of Resident Evil two and was hoping to see it on a movie screen, but I'm way to far from the closest one. I guess I'll just have to wait untill it comes out on DVD. But it just wont be the same as seeing it on the silver screen.[/img]
