Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia President to Step Down

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia president and CEO Hiroshi Kawano will retire from the position effective on September 1. Current vice president of administration, Atsushi Morita, will replace him. Sony will hold a press conference on the same day.

Kawano has worked for Sony for the last 29 years in various capacities, including as vice president of Consumer Sales and general manager of Sony Europe.

Sony Computer Entertainment America president Jack Tretton stepped down from his position on March 31. Sony Network Entertainment International EVP and COO Shawn Layden replaced him on April 1.

Sony announced in May that it is estimating a loss of US$1.27 billion for the 2013 fiscal year. It announced in April that it will sell all of its 9.52 million shares of Square Enix Holdings to SMBC Nikko Securities Inc. Overall, Sony plans to cut 1,500 jobs in Japan and 3,500 jobs overseas by March 2015.
