Steins;Gate's PS3/PS Vita Editions Coming to N. America in August

posted on by Karen Ressler

United Kingdom-based retailer Rice Digital announced on Monday that PQube Games' North American release of the Steins;Gate game for PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3 is slated for August 25.

PQube Games released the game in Europe on June 5.

Rice Digital is offering worldwide an exclusive "Steins;Gate El Psy Kongroo Edition" with a "premium quality" 124-page art book, double pin badge set for new Future Gadget Lab members, exclusive metal Upa replica, and a presentation box for the badges and Upa replica.

PQube Games previously streamed the opening:

5pb. and Nitroplus' Steins;Gate game is the second "scientific adventure game" from the two companies, who also created Chaos;HEAd and Robotics;Notes. The artist huke (Black Rock Shooter) designed the characters. The story of the original game revolves around the eccentric college student Rintarō "Okarin" Okabe and his "Mirai Gadget Kenkyūsho" ("Future Gadget Laboratory") circle of friends in a realistic version of Tokyo's Akihabara district. The friends turn a microwave oven into a machine that sends email messages to the past, and that attracts the attention of a mysterious organization called SERN.

The game originally shipped for the Xbox 360 console in October 2009, and a Windows port shipped in August 2010. The game has also been ported to the PSP, PS3, PS Vita, and iOS.

The game inspired a 24-episode television anime series in 2011, a one-episode special that was included with the home video release, and most recently the Steins;Gate Fuka Ryōiki no Déjà vu film, which opened in Japan in 2013. Funimation released the television anime series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in 2012.
