Yahoo! Japan News reported on Monday that Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan manga has surpassed 52 million copies in print worldwide. The manga had 50 million copies in print worldwide as of August.
Isayama's Attack on Titan manga depicts the battles between humans and the giants who now rule the world outside humans' walled enclaves.
The manga has been adapted into a 25-episode television anime series, with a second season planned for 2016. The manga has also inspired two anime compilation films, several manga and light novel spinoffs, and several video games. One of the spinoffs, Attack on Titan: Junior High, has inspired its own TV anime that premiered earlier this month. Another spinoff, Attack on Titan: No Regrets, inspired a two-episode original anime video series.
The manga has also spawned two live-action film adaptations. FUNimation Entertainment premiered the first live-action film in Hollywood on July 14, and opened the first film in a limited engagement in the United States on September 30. Funimation opened the sequel live-action Attack on Titan: End of the World in a limited engagement in the United States on Tuesday. Kodansha Comics publishes the manga in English, and it shipped the manga's 16th volume on August 25.
