Castlevania Show's Adi Shankar: Next Project is Dark 'Power Rangers' Reimagining

posted on by Karen Ressler

Producer Adi Shankar said in an interview with gaming news website Polygon that his next project, after the upcoming Castlevania series for Netflix, will be an animated series reimagining the first three seasons of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Shankar describes the series as R-rated, and "darker than any other Power Rangers series." He also said he wanted to move away from the monster-of-the-week format of the original series. He is working on a script and hopes to launch the series within the next 18 months, though he does not yet have a network.

Shankar did not confirm if Saban Brands, the rights holders of the Power Rangers franchise, has given the greenlight to the show. Shankar produced a 14-minute short film based on Power Rangers with director Joseph Kahn in 2015 as part of his "Bootleg Universe" series, though the video was temporarily pulled from streaming due to a copyright claim from Saban.

Lionsgate will debut a live-action Power Rangers film based on the original series on March 24.
