posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

Crowdfunding platform Kickstarter announced on May 18 that it will allow Kickstarter projects to launch directly from Japan later this year. The platform will announce more details at a later date.

Previously, Kickstarter projects by creators from Japan had to required a person or organization outside Japan to act as a middleman for the project.

Some anime that had Kickstarter projects include Under the Dog, Little Witch Academia: The Enchanted Parade, Kick-Heart, and Red Ash: -Gearworld-. Japanese creators have also launched Kickstarter projects for manga, games, and other projects on the platform. Japan also has native crowdfunding platforms such as Makuake and Campfire.
