Viz Media Names Chris Butcher Consulting Editor-At-Large

Viz Media has named Christopher Butcher, former manager of Toronto comics bookstore The Beguiling, as consulting editor-at-large. In the new role, Butcher will spend time in North America and Japan to scout acquisitions, new talent, and new publishing projects. In addition to manga, he will also scout for original comics projects from outside Japan.
Butcher is leaving his manager position at The Beguiling but will continue to oversee Toronto Comics Arts Festival as artistic director. Butcher founded the three-day annual festival in 2003.
Butcher began working in the comics retail industry in 1997 and has worked as a clerk, manager, and buyer. He has also worked in editorial and production for publishing companies such as Image and Oni Press, and he served as marketing director for Udon Entertainment from 2013 to 2015. As a comics blogger and journalist, he has covered manga and independent comics in North America.
