Production I.G Recruits Volunteer Extras for Mamoru Oshii's 'School Fantasy' Film

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

Production I.G revealed on Tuesday that it is seeking volunteer extras for the filming of a movie directed by Mamoru Oshii. The information noted that the film will have a "school fantasy" theme, and Production I.G, a primarily animation studio, is producing the film.

The casting call is for three separate filming dates. The first two days will take place on March 29 and March 30 (or entirely on March 30 in case of bad weather) at a school in Gotenba, Shizuoka prefecture, and will portray a scene inside school. The March 29 filming is seeking 10 female cast members aged 15-25 to play students, and three male cast members aged 25-60 to play teachers. The March 30 filming has the same criteria, but seeks 50 female cast members, and another three male cast members.

The third day of filming takes place on April 2 at a studio in Tokyo's Bunkyō ward. The scene will portray an action scene at the site of a blood donation drive. The casting is seeking two female cast members aged 20-40 to portray medical staff, as well as five 20-50 year-old males and three 20-40 year-old female cast members to portray blood donors.

Novelist Baku Yumemakura recently revealed that Oshii will direct an animation film adaptation of Yumemakura's Chimera novel series.

Oshii is known for writing and directing numerous animated films, original video anime (OVA), television anime series, and live-action films. His early career included directing the first original video anime, Dallos. He also directed Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer, Angel's Egg, and several Patlabor projects.

The 1995 science fiction animated feature Ghost in the Shell led him to international critical and commercial success. After the success of Ghost in the Shell, Oshii was involved in various projects such as Jin-Roh - The Wolf Brigade, Blood: The Last Vampire, and The Sky Crawlers.

Oshii has worked on live-action projects in the past, such as The Last Druid: Garm Wars, the The Next Generation -Patlabor- project, and Nowhere Girl. He directed the hybrid live-action/CG micro-series "Sand Whale and Me" at Production I.G, which debuted on Adult Swim's Toonami block in March 2017.
