Nintendo Offers Switch Set Without Dock, AC Adapter in Japan

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

Nintendo announced on Wednesday that it is offering a new Nintendo Switch console set that only includes the Switch itself, the left and right Joy-Con controllers, and two Joy-Con straps. The set excludes the dock, Joy-Con Grip, AC adapter, and HDMI cable. The set costs 24,980 yen (about US$220), compared to 29,980 yen (about US$270) for the original set that includes all the above items.

The new set is available through Nintendo's online shop in Japan only. The set is targeted at people who already own a Nintendo Switch but may want to play while other people use the main system.

The Switch's dock allows the console to output video to a separate screen, enables 60 frames per second gameplay on some games, and enables the use of a stronger graphics card. The dock also charges the unit, though the unit can be directly charged through a USB-C connector. The Joy-Con Grip allows users to attach both the left and right Joy-Con controllers to function as one controller.

Nintendo released its Switch console in March last year, and the console sold 17.79 million units worldwide as of March 31. Nintendo's Switch Online service will launch in September, and the company outlined additional features for the service earlier this month.
