Clannad Game's PS4 Version Launches in U.S. on Thursday

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins

Game company Prototype began streaming an English opening video on Thursday for the PlayStation 4 version of the Clannad visual novel. The company noted that the game is launching in the United States on Thursday (as of press time, the game is not yet available on the U.S. PlayStation Store).

The U.S. release will be digital-only, but the PlayStation 4 physical version that shipped in Japan on June 14 features an English text option. Prototype is preparing distribution for other regions, including Europe.

Sekai Project released the Clannad visual novel on the PC via Steam in November 2015 after a successful Kickstarter campaign. Sekai Project also released the Clannad: Side Stories visual novel on the PC via Steam in 2016.

The original visual novel has already been ported to PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PSP, Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita, and phones in Japan.

The game inspired an anime movie and two television anime series. The series follows delinquent high school student Tomoya Okazaki, who one day meets a strange girl named Nagisa Furukawa who is a year older, but is repeating her last year of high school due to illness. Tomoya becomes involved with Nagisa and her hopes of restarting the school drama club.
