Live-Action Kasane Film Unveils 2 Visuals

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

The official website for the live-action film adaptation of Daruma Matsuura's Kasane manga unveiled two new visuals for the film on Friday. The first visual (below) features the tagline, "Can just being beautiful make me happy?" on the left, and the tagline, "Can just being ugly be a sin?" on the right, as well as the text, "Superiority complex/inferiority complex" at the bottom of the visual.

The second visual contains the tagline, "I'll teach you what having an inferiority complex is all about."

Tao Tsuchiya is playing Nina Tanzawa, as well as Kasane with Nina's face. Kyōko Yoshine is playing protagonist Kasane, as well as Nina with Kasane's face. The plot involves the two characters trading faces through the power of a magical tube of lipstick.

Yuichi Sato (live-action Nōnai Poison Berry, Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru) is directing the film, and Tsutomu Kuroiwa (GANTZ:O, One Piece Film Gold, live-action Black Butler) is writing the script.

Kodansha Comics began releasing the manga digitally in English in May 2017. The company describes the story:

Kasane's face is so hideous, you couldn't bear to look twice at her—and her ugliness has forced her to walk a harsh path in life. But her mother left her something: a tube of lipstick. The power of this lipstick will change everything about her downtrodden life.

Matsuura launched the ongoing series in Kodansha's Evening magazine in April 2013 as her debut work, and Kodansha published the 13th compiled volume on April 23. The manga was nominated for the Kodansha Manga Awards and the Manga Taisho Award in 2015.
