Sentai Filmworks' Mardock Scramble Film Trilogy License Expires

posted on by Karen Ressler

Sentai Filmworks announced on Saturday that its home video release of the Mardock Scramble film trilogy is out of print. Sentai Filmworks confirmed with ANN that its license has expired.

Sentai Filmworks announced its license for the film trilogy — Mardock Scramble: The First Compression (2010), Mardock Scramble: The Second Combustion (2011), and Mardock Scramble: The Third Exhaust (2012) — in 2011. The company released the films individually in 2011, 2013, and 2014, respectively. The trilogy set shipped on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in 2015.

The anime adapts Tow Ubukata's novel series. In the story, a teenage prostitute named Rune Balot is murdered in an explosion. However, Dr. Easter saves her, and Balot is resurrected as an advanced cyborg. Balot takes on the worst of Mardock City's criminals as she looks for vengeance.
