MBS Creates New 'Super Animeism' Late-Night Anime Programming Block

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins

Television channel Mainichi Broadcasting System (MBS) revealed on Friday that it will expand its late-night anime programming block "Animeism" by half an hour starting in July.

The new half-hour block is titled "Super Animeism," and will air on MBS and its countrywide affiliated networks late at night on Fridays (effectively Saturdays early morning) at 1:25 a.m. The current one-hour "Animeism" programming block, which airs from 1:55-2:55 a.m., will also continue. The original "Animeism" block premiered in 2012 but aired late at night on Thursdays until 2015.

Currently, the "Animeism" programming block is airing the Domestic Girlfriend and Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka series. Although not part of the programming block, MBS, TBS, and BS-TBS also air another anime program at 2:55 a.m. The current anime in that timeslot is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind.

MBS used to air anime on primetime on weekends, but stopped those programming blocks in 2017. MBS and TBS established the one-hour "Anime Saturday 630" programing block for early Saturday mornings in January 2017.
